SNAPPY HLX 2005 | |||||||||||||||||||
01 July 2005 I love my hobby. It takes me out into the fresh air, it lowers my blood pressure, clears my head, and while flying I totally forget my day-to-day tribulations. Whenever we go on a family outing, more often then not, it is in an area where I could fly one of my planes easily. You know the kind of thing; do a 10 minute flight, have a picnic lunch, do another 10 minute flight, play with the kids, go home. However, I can't because my planes and stuff take up most of the car's space. Even my Unicorn at 48" takes up the whole backseat. Also, and this is only secondary, I fly mostly my Unicorn and Filip 600 Sport. Both can be classified as "glider" with the 'Corn slightly more "rough-and-tumble". With some imagination, they can be qualified as "similar purpose" planes. Lately I have been using my 'Corn more and more to "let her rip" and my Filip for relaxed gliding. I want something that was made to "let rip". So the thought of getting something "small" entered my mind. Something that would easily fit into a box and wouldn't need on-sight assembly. A flying wing comes to mind. A mini flying wing. A cheap mini flying wing... So, the criteria were: - No need for an expensive brushless setup to go fast. - 24" wingspan; any smaller would dissapear out of sight too quickly, any bigger would defy the object. - All equipment (including battery pack) inside the wing. - All EPP - Could fit in a box There are many mini wings on the market today, but the Snappy HLX from RCWorks stood out. There is no ply/balsa center board/motor mount/landing skid, like in most of the mini wings (easier to bury the battery), it uses the venerable Johnson250 motor, oh yes did I mention it was also the cheapest and (for that price) most complete kit? After some back and forth e-mailing with Richard Culbertson from RCWorks (hence the RC in RCWorks I think) two Snappy kits where ordered. One for me, and one for my friend, Eli Sayag 13 July 2005 The kits arrived! Click on the links below to follow my adventures with the Snappy... |
