I put in a 90 grams 4x1200 pack as far forward as possible, and added another 55 grams inside the spinner to balance right on the spot.
There was a good western breeze of 30 Km/H. A quick glide test showed the CG was pretty good. So we
tossed the 'stang over the edge. And she flew! Since this was a maiden flight I had some throw
and exponential issues. A slight misshap near the cliff's edge brought her down unhurt, so I took the opportunity
to dial in 25% exponential on both ailerons and elevator. And ready for another round. She's very lively and
accelerates real quick. She also looses virtually all airspeed on a tight turn. That made my toes curl somewhat,
but I was soon used to making sligtly wider turns than I am used with my other models. A nice flyer.
Proof she flew:
I started to get comfortable, and did some speed runs and high turns.
And then it happened... A light tap of a passing Moth48's tail going the opposite direction, and the
Mustang exploded in a shower of bits of foam. Part of the wing, the nose, and the tail were found. All else
was reduced to tiny bits of foam.
Often foamies damage is repairable, but this is beyond repair.
The on-board-pilot was found a bit later, and is now recuperating safely back in my daughter's toy box,
amongst all other Sponge-Bob paraphernalia.
Incredibly, all electronics were found as well, at home reconnected, and found to be in perfect working order!
Ready for the next project...
