IMC-Prague Call to Action

The Independent Media Center of Prague calls you, journalists, media activists, and rabble-rousers of the world to join us in creating democratic, grassroots and political coverage of the S26 protests in Prague and around the world. We need you to bring your video cameras, mini disc recorders, laptop, photographic cameras to Prague to help work in the open, democratic, multi-lingual, and non-sectarian media center. If you can't make it to Prague, then cover the solidarity actions in your community and post the articles to the prague.indymedia.org website.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't believe the hype - bypass the corporate media machine - take control - make up your own mind. In September people attending the events will have the opportunity to contribute to this site - if you choose to stay at home, and not take part, then don't just passively consume the media spectacle, check out IMC Prague and get the real picture as the events unfold.

What's really going on?

Confused by corporate-controlled propaganda organs? Don't be! Stop relying on the self-proclaimed "mainstream" media for information and cultivate alternative sources. In Seattle, the Independent Media Center kept anti-WTO, pro-democracy activists--and the outside world--informed with a combination of old-fashioned journalism and 21st-Century technology. In Washington D.C., during the IMF/World Bank protests; then in Philadelphia and Los Angeles for the nonviolent direct actions protesting corporate control of the electoral process at The Republican and Democratic Party conventions, Independent Media Centers quickly became the place to go for the real news. Read these excerpts from stories currently posted on the Independent Media Center website, and clear your head of all that confusion!

DEMOCRATIC CONVENTIONS PROTESTS REDEFINE MOVEMENT, END ON A HIGH NOTE
by Jim Smith
Building on the mass movement that exploded into the public consciousness last November in Seattle, this week's contribution from Los Angeles was significant and of lasting value. While the focus on corporate, or neoliberal, globalism is still at the heart of the movement, its impact and poor and working people - particularly those of color - was the major focus of many activities... Statement from LA Jon Does
We are in jail for doing nonviolent civil disobedience, because our freedom is diminished by the diminishment of others. The Democratic and Republican parties have brought us a society riddled with corporate influence, environmental destruction, racism, sexism, homophobia and other injustices... [

The Crisis of Public Reason
by Phil Agre
Who's Crazy? Almost universally, demonstrators against corporate rule are portrayed as purely emotional, irrationally opposed to ideas and institutions that are "embodiments of reason." But the appearance of rationality is just that--appearance...[
