Busch Series Crew Chief: Bobby Kennedy
Bobby Kennedy begins his second season as the crew chief for Michael Waltrip in the Busch Series. The No. 99 team will once again run a limited Busch Series schedule in 2002.
Kennedy had his first taste of the auto-racing world at a young age. He grew up selling t-shirts from his parents' screen printing company at the dirt tracks around Charlotte. From this early exposure, it was the thrill, competition and excitement of auto racing that drove Kennedy to make a career out of the sport. In his early days, Kennedy worked on late model cars at Concord Speedway in North Carolina. Growing up, he was a fan of Cale Yarbrough, but it was Barry Dodson who had the biggest influence on his racing career.
In 1988, Kennedy was a full-time tire specialist for Hoosier Tire and quickly climbed the ladder to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. He then joined forces with Sabco in 1993 as a chassis specialist.
Kennedy parted ways with Sabco in 1996 to join Kyle Petty and Petty Enterprises. He was a Winston Cup crew chief with PE for two seasons. After leaving the Pettys, he went to Mattei Motorsports and its No. 7 Winston Cup car. It was then when he first worked as crew chief for Michael Waltrip.
