Jay Red Hawk
       Jay Red Hawk has a vast knowledge of Dakota/Lakota culture..Some of the areas he specializes in are horseback archery,lakota courting flute,and the traditional roles of the male in the Dakota/Lakota culture.From 1990 to 1998,he clocked over 5,000 miles on horseback,participating in spiritual and endurance rides.He has ridden 550 miles to Canada,across South Dakota[including 80 miles through the Black Hills]Minnesota and Montana.
     Jay has lectured at colleges such as the University of Minnesota ,for the Board of Directors of United way,an invited speaker to the World Conference on Particle Astrophysics at U.C Berkeley,where scientists from all over the world came to hear Indigenous Creation Stories.He has also given interpretive programs to hundreds of schools in the Northern plains both on and off the reservations,from Head Start through High School.I 1995,he received an award for community service from the St Paul Indian Education Program.Whithin the past ten years ,he has worked as a Dakota interpreter for and with the Ramsey County,Bloomington County,Minnesota and Pennington County Historical Society.

       In 2002.Jay served on the living history committee to the Journey Museum,[Rapid City] and has worked for the last 4 years with the Fort Meade Cavalry Days Committee and Event in Sturgis,South Dakota.
       In 2003,Jay worked as a Dakota/Lakota interpreter at Kevin Costner's "Tatanka:Story of the Bison"Performing horseback archery,flute playing,traditional stories,horsemanship demonstrations and interpretive presentations on the male role in the Warrior societies of the Northern plains to an international audience.
        In the fall of 2003,with the Wanaunsapi Tiyospaye ,he brought back the traditional buffalo hunt,on horseback with bow and arrows.
    In 2004 ,him and the family group created "Wicoti"a living history lakota village in Hill City South Dakota.
      He had the honor to participate at the International Horseback Archery Festival in Fort Dodge,Iowa
    
     Besides being an excellent flute player,Jay is also a very good traditional flute maker,
making his flutes the old Lakota way ,using only natural materials.
