Sweeney eclipsed his season totals from a year ago. Sweeney established personal career highs in goals (5), assists (21), points (26), and PIMS (44). Had three assists in 8-6 victory at IUP on 1.16.09 at the S&T Bank Arena. Had a 5 point weekend vs. Villanova (9.26-27.2008) scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists in two wins for the Presidents. Picked up 20th assist of the season in 10-2 win vs. John Carroll (1.31.09) at the Iceoplex at Southpointe.

As a freshman at Washington & Jefferson College, Sweeney played in all 35 Presidents' games scoring 3 goals,dishing out 6 assists for a total of 9 points with 32 penalty minutes. Sweeney picked up his first ACHA and President point with an assist against Niagara (9.30.07) at the Iceoplex at Southpointe. Sweeney scored his first goal as a President versus Youngstown State (11.14.07) at the Iceoplex at Southpointe.

Sweeney played for Pingree High School (South Hamilton, MA) in '05-06 and '06-07. In 2006-07, Sweeney played in 31 games, scored 12 goals and assisted on 22 for 34 points with a +15 in his senior season of high school hockey. In 2005-06, Sweeney played in 31 games, scored 10 goals and assisted on 10 for 20 points. As a freshman in high school, was awarded with the Coaches' Award. Was an Academics & Athletics CAN/AM Scholarship Award Winner in 1997,1998, 1999.
