Kathina (Robes Offering Ceremony) | ||||||||||||||||||
At one time, the Buddha was staying at the Jetavanna monastery in Anathapindika Park at Savathi for the Vassa (Phansa or the Rains Season Retreat). One day, thirty Paveyyaka Bhikkhu (monks) who kept only four Dhutanga decided to see the Buddha. However, they had to stop at Saketa as Vassa was approaching. After the Vassa, they proceeded their journey to Savatthi. At that time,it was raining heavily, so they were extremely fatigued, their robes were wet, heavy and dirty when they finally reached the Jetavanna monastery. On seeing their condition and listening to their plight, the Buddha allowed them to accept the Kathina Robes. This year,2006, the Vassa begins on 11th July and ends on the 7th of October. The Wat Phra Buddha Jinaraja committee members are happy to announce that the robes offering ceremony Kathina will be held on 15th October 2006(Sunday) Many lay disciples feel joyful to participate in the robes offering ceremony since it is a meritorious deed.It is often said that the offering of robes at Kathina has special significance.By virtue of their voluntary participation, devotees will gain both special and general benefits. It is ardently hoped that when donors offer the robes they need to be mindful and make the proper aspirations.May all the merits accrued be shared by all sentient beings. We look forward to seeing you and your family on this auspicious occasion.May you and your family be well and happy always. |
