Ears And Hands That See

Distant sounds fill the night air
As I lie in silence and wait
The only sound that comes from me
Is the sound that my beating heart makes
Then muffled sounds that come from the distance
Seem farther and farther away
I hear what once sounded to be voices
But, I can't understand what they say
It's not the cry of a frightened child
Or of someone who would be in fear
It's closer to the sound an animal makes
Maybe a frolicking lamb or  dear
It now is quiet as I lie and wait
To see what the next sound will be
But, time moves slowly as I lie
And wish that I could see
For sound is all that I have
Sound, and the ability to feel my way
My eyes you see they no longer work
So, I can't tell if it's night or day
Since it's quiet and no sounds I hear
I suppose I should lie here and pray
And thank the Lord for letting me see
With my hands and ears this way
Light you see I do not require
For my way around to find
You see my eyes they no longer work
Now  you understand Yes, I am blind
