Ode To The Viet - Nam Vet

Many of them were forced to go
But, on their return, little did they know
That they would be received unwanted and unrewarded
The people and country they went to defend
Would abuse that freedom on which they depend
Only to disrespect and spit on returning heros
Heros that dodged bullets as brothers died
A bullet with their name caught another nearby
Never knowing when their's would find its mark
Six months at a time they continued to fight
Following orders they knew were not right
Orders that may lead them to death
Yet, they continued to follow and fight
In villages, jungles and rice patties by day and night
Never sure if they would make it through
Bravely they struggled alone and true
Maintaining freedom for me and you
Fighting for people they didn't know
To live as they watched others die
And listen to brothers who in pain cried
What a price they had to pay
To return home and their only reward being
Disrespect, night - sweats and memories of brothers bleeding
For a country ungrateful and undeserving of such heroes
Though I was sent to Europe to serve
I spent time with many as they returned
Heartbroken and distraught over an ungrateful nation
May GOD'S Grace, Mercy, Peace, Love, Joy and Justice
Be with each that served and came back to us
Especially those who came home in a bag
So that one day they may receive their due
For fighting so bravely for freedom and you
GOD Bless them all for recognition as " Heroes " is finally theirs
May GOD watch over all MIA's who remain in our prayers
