Watching Ants

The rain is pouring down, it seems to come in sheets
As though it intends to wash the earth complete
To refresh and revitalize and to water the plants
As I look out of my window, I notice little ants
Attempting to repair the damage done
Working together as though they were one
It's amazing to watch them so tiny and small
At the exact same moment they  answer the call
To aid and assist in each and every endeavor
The Queen commands ... " This terrible weather
Has weakened our fortress."  and immediately they fly
In response to the Queen Ant's cry
So fiercely they work to repair the walls
That protect the eggs, Queen and all
For their entire world revolves around
Those tiny holes escavated in the ground
So, to repair, protect and defend is all they know
Their entire existence is only so
Their colony may continue to exist
For this alone they continually persist
Even stronger and larger the next generation will be
They're really not that different than humanity
