A forklift is a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine or an electrical motor, controlled by a riding or pedestrian operator, indoors or outdoors, and is equipped to: Lift and transport materials; Transport, lift, stack, tier, and retrieve materials; Transport personnel or materials; Tow or push aircraft or material transport trailers. Excluded are cranes and vehicles designed primarily for earthmoving, agriculture, and forestry. Vehicles designed to operate primarily on public streets or roads are also excluded. WHAT ARE ATTACHMENTS? Attachments - Any mechanical device, other that the standard pallet forks, installed on the mast(s) of an industrial truck to handle non-palletized loads. The devices may be hydraulic, electric or mechanical in operation. WHAT ARE FORKS? Forks - Any device attached to the carriage or the mast for the purpose of carrying palletized loads. WHAT IS A MAST? Masts - Any mechanism attached to the forklift which provides it with the ability to raise its load and/or operator above 24" from the floor. WHAT IS A BATTERY? Batteries - The electrical storage unit which provides either the starting power for Class IV, V, VI or VII trucks or the primary motive power source on Class I, II, or III trucks. WHAT IS A CHARGER? Chargers - Those components which replenish the energy to those items outlined under "batteries". Battery Handling Equipment - Any equipment including hoist, rollers, or cranes utilized for the installation or removal of those products outlined under "batteries". This product also may include any equipment required to comply with all applicable safety standards such as eye wash stations, personnel protection, etc. WHAT ARE TIRES? Tires - All pneumatic or solid rolling assemblies designed to be mounted on a separate rim prior to installation on an axle position. WHAT ARE WHEELS AND CASTERS? Wheels and Casters - Any rolling assembly designed to be mounted directly to an axle position not requiring the addition of a supplementary tread surface prior to operation. WHAT ARE ACCESSORIES? Accessories - Any component utilized in lift truck production not specifically defined in one of the other product classes that does not constitute a required part for the lift truck to perform its intended function. WHAT ARE COMPONENTS? Components - Any component, not specifically defined in one of the other product classes, which comprises a basic element of the lift trucks construction so that its eliminiation would inhibit the vehicle from performing its intended function. WHAT ARE CONTROLS? Controls - Any device utilized to provide a variation in the operating speed of any traction or lift motor on Class I, II, or III trucks. WHAT ARE VALVES? Valves - Any device used to regulate the flow of hydraulic or cooling fluid on industrial lift trucks. Engines - All devices utilized to provide the basic power source for Internal Combustion powered vehicles (Class IV, V, VI, VII). WHAT ARE MOTORS? Motors - All devices utilized to provide the primary travel or lift power source on electric powered trucks (Class I, II, III). WHAT IS A FUEL SYSTEM?
