The SRE Controls technology consists of MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor)
power devices coupled with state-of-the-art Microprocessor Software Control.
The SCR systems still used by many OEM's, even with their improved interfaces and basic on-board
diagnostics (i.e. EV100-LX) are still based on 40 years old SCR diode switching technology.
- Up to 60 percent more energy efficient.
The SRE-1000 system will operate the forklift truck on less battery current. This is achieved through
five major improvements and innovations over the old SCR system.
- - Elimination of SCR diode heat generation and dissipation,
- - Elimination of SCR switching losses,
- - Controlled Ripple Current,
- - Intelligent current management,
- - User programmable current profile.
- Improved Truck Performance.
The SRE-1000 dramatically improves forklift truck performance on two levels:
- The current limit set on an SCR system is a poor compromise between supplying the motors with
enough current to perform while limiting this current to a level that is not too damaging to the brushes, commutator,
armature and field windings. The system fails on both counts. Furthermore, if the operator maintains a high current
demand on the controller, the system goes into Bypass ( 1-A ), effectively connecting the battery directly to the
motor(s) with absolutely no motor or battery protection.
- The SRE-1000 System, through Microprocessor Control, now allows a much higher starting current,
up to twice the torque to climb, pull or push for a short period of time. The system then constantly re-evaluates
the current demands and readjusts the output to the most efficient level, while always protecting the brushes,
commutator, armature and fields, in a manner as transparent as possible to the operator.
This protection coupled with ramping the plug-braking current over a quarter of a second results in considerable
maintenance savings. Users are reporting brush life 5 to 10 times longer than with the SCR system, with virtual
elimination of motor damage.
- The second level of performance improvement is due to the fact that the SRE-1000 does not require
the installation of a Bypass (1-A) contactor. Full speed is achieved through the Controller, and heat dissipation
is not a problem as it is with SCR systems. The SRE-1000 also does not use a preset "creep" speed to
compensate for poor low end control. The result is a constantly smooth and predictable acceleration from 0 to 100%
speed.
- Built-in Battery Discharge Interlock lift interrupt system.
The SRE-1000 provides the end user with a standard equipment battery protection system with a lift
interrupt.
- Unlike conventional BDI systems that only look at the battery voltage "droop" under
load to estimate the state of charge, the SRE system also builds a history profile of the characteristics of the
battery and compares the known current throughput of the battery with the voltage "droop" in order to
arrive at an "intelligent" lift interrupt point.
The system also cannot be cheated into resetting as is commonly done with conventional BDI's.
- Reduced maintenance and increased safety.
Added to the protection levels provided by the BDI system and the intelligent current management,
the SRE-1000 provides cold forward and reverse contactor switching.
- By turning off the output current for a fraction of a second while switching the directional
contactors, the SRE-1000 achieves total cold switching. Since there is absolutely no sparking across the directional
contactor tips, they will never have to be replaced. Add to that the reduced brush wear, the absence of a 1-A contactor,
and the full time motor and battery protection, you end up with an electric forklift truck that requires very little
maintenance and even fewer repairs.
SRE-1000 Operating System, Features and Benefits.
- - Upgrade your obsolete Electric Truck controls system.
The SRE-1000 System eliminates the 40 years old technology presently used in SCR controlled electric
forklift and replaces it with state-of-the-art microprocessor driven MOSFET technology.
- - Increase equipment operating up time.
By eliminating the switching losses and major heat dissipation losses inherent to the SCR systems,
the SRE-1000 System will run the forklift truck up to 60 percent longer on the same battery charge, thus reducing
the charging costs and prolonging battery life overall. Battery life and performance are further extended by the
built-in Battery Discharge Monitor & Interlock System provided as standard equipment with all of the SE-325
and SE-175 Controllers.
- - Eliminate contactor tips replacement.
By eliminating the bypass (1-A) contactor not required with the SRE-1000 System, and introducing
cold forward and reverse contactor switching, the SRE-1000 System virtually eliminates the need for contactor tips
replacement.
- - Reduce troubleshooting and maintenance time.
Troubleshooting time is greatly reduced by the fact that the SRE-1000 System detects and logs most
problems that could affect the forklift truck, including hard to pinpoint intermittent problems. These faults will
be stored until retrieved and corrected by the technician. Maintenance is further reduced by the high level of
battery and motor protection, the elimination of contact tips replacement, and much longer motor brush life.
- - Increase operator and equipment safety.
By eliminating the need for a Bypass (1-A) contactor, switching the directional contactors cold,
and preventing excessive battery discharges the SRE-1000 System virtually eliminates the possibility of a truck
runaway, providing an high level of safety for the operator, bystanders, equipment and product.
Also, one of the exclusive features of the SRE-1000 System is to allow for the adjustment of top speed. Maximum
travel speed can now be set to any desired level, independently from forward to reverse if desired. Most of the
performance parameters such as acceleration, plug braking severity, etc.. can be set differently from forward to
reverse, providing an added level of safety.
- - Increase the electrical system efficiency and reliability
By using exclusively solid state components in a sealed environment, the SRE-1000 System eliminates
all maintenance requirements to the control system, while providing rapid diagnostics, in plain text, for the rest
of the electrical system.
- - Standardize components and eliminate the need for obsolete parts.
By covering the full range of 12, 24, 36, and 48 volt trucks, the SRE-1000 System eliminates the
need to stock a wide variety of parts to maintain and service a fleet of different model trucks. Peripheral components
such as contactor assemblies and accelerators can also be standardized.
- - Substantially increase and Customize electric truck performance.
By allowing much higher startup current limits and monitoring and adjusting protection parameters
several times per second, the SRE-1000 System provides the operator with much higher torque while constantly monitoring
and protecting the forklift truck to prevent any abuse or damage to the system.
- - Document and record equipment usage time for efficient application.
Through built-in service and performance clocks, the SRE-1000 System lets you monitor and record
such data as total key-on time, actual operator-on time, total drive time, lift time, etc...
