Gellért Thermal Baths and Swiming Pool The present building of the baths and hotel called Szt. Gellért Gyógyfürdo és Szálló was erected in 1918 and opened to the public on 26th September of that year. The wave pool was built in 1927, and the `champagne` bubble pool was constructed in 1934. The spa, well-known throughout the world, is the most popular spa among foreign visitors. Nearly all medical services of a spa are available, with rheumatology, comprehensive physiotherapy unit (day hospital), physiotherapy sub-unit and inhalatorium. Besides the `champagne` and wave pools, the sunbathing terraces for women only and for mixed naturists are popular. |
Much of the infrastructure supporting tourism e.g. The State Opera House is still being reconstructed (in 2001) and represents poor value when 2nd rate performances cost european prices. NB the boring 'folk dances' cf the magic performance in the country?? Town. http://www.budapestinfo.hu/en/ Royal Palace (Kirlyi Palota) Castle District (Vrnegyed) Trinity Square (Szenthromsg tr) Fishermen's Bastion (Halszbstya) Matthias Church (Mtys templom) Mary Magdalene Tower (Mria Magdolna torony) Cave system (Barlangrendszer) |

The original objective was to cross into Slovakia but, faced with the prospect of having to pay $US50 for a transit visa, we decided to drive back through Austria and cross the Czech border near MIKULOV. Our travels continued onto the CZECH REPUBLIC. |
