EVEREST Model S Tilman Elster collection Industrial Dattilografica of Milan, Italy had previously made such machines as the SABB / JUVENTA, in earlier corporate incarnations, prior to introduction of the EVEREST machines in 1931. Production ran through the Second World War and increased following. By the early 1960's, the firm was in a weakened position and was bought out by Olivetti, who ran down the supply of parts by completing machines until the parts were exhausted. Olivetti even assisted workers in finding new jobs, and later opened a facility of its own in Milan. Seen here is an Everest S, serial 63409, from 1937. |
EVEREST STANDARD ST Tilman Elster collection This 1952 example (serial 256056) shows subtle changes from the machine seen above, but is still the same basic, reliable typewriter. |
EVEREST STANDARD Model 92 Tilman Elster collection This is an example of the last Everest standard, and this particular machine is from 1959 (serial 382651.) It has the two-tone styling in white/gray often seen on the very latest Everest machines. |
EVEREST 90 Tilman Elster collection It was mentioned that Everest production continued while the Second World War was in progress, and this Everest 90 portable is from that time. It is serial number 119910 and dates to 1943. |
EVEREST K2 PORTABLES Right, Tilman Elster collection Below & below right, Will Davis collection This is the Everest machine that most typewriter enthusiasts think of. The K2 was produced in good numbers, and was the only truly conventionally sized portable made in Italy (the Olivetti machines at the time being either much smaller, or larger and heavier.) Tilman's example is serial 557119 and was built in 1957. Will Davis' machines are labeled individually. |
GRANTA Tilman Elster collection A name variant of the Everest 90; this machine is serial 45247 and dates to 1941. |
