MONTANA Tilman Elster collection In 1950, Montana SpA of Torino, Italy began production of a perfect, license-built copy of the Hermes Baby. The machine always carried the Montana name; Hermes never outsourced this company for Hermes-branded machines. This example is serial number 34859. |
MONTANA Tilman Elster collection This example still retains the label on the paper table which says only "Luxe," and appears to have no ribbon selector switch on the right of the keyboard. Serial number 61305. |
MONTANA Will Davis collection This example, serial number 60171, actually says "De Luxe" on its carriage. It has a three-position ribbon selector, and the margin release key is a red circular key different in shape from the rest. The body is not all-metal as in the earlier (single color) machines, but partly plastic by this point. |
CARLTON Will Davis collection This machine (serial 82315) is a relabeled version of the final Montana model. The body is all-plastic, and is much less expensive. Three-position ribbon selector. In addition to the labels Montana and Carlton, this machine has also been noted labeled Vornado. |
