European Typewriters: GERMANY / P, Q and R |
Left, PASSAT BS1, serial number 2187. RIght, PASSAT BS2, serial number 14000. Manufactured roughly 1948-1949 for the BS1 and 1950 for the BS2, in West Germany. Details will appear when available. Both machines are in the Tilman Elster collection. |
RADIO Thomas Fuertig collection The Radio is a later development from the DEA, which can be seen on the appropriate "D" page of this site. After World War I ended, the firm that produced the DEA was reorganized as Concordia Maschinenbau (which name appears on the front frame of this machine) and normally distributed the machine as the Concordia. "Radio" is a rare name-variant for the Concordia. This example is serial number 937. |
RELIABLE Thomas Fuertig collection This Reliable Model 3, with serial number 13880, is a member of the final sub-set of a large and complicated family of machines which is explained on the page concerning "M, N and O" machines on this site. Produced beginning 1921 in Germany. |
RADIO Tilman Elster collection Here is another view, from a different angle, further displaying the characteristics of this name-variant of the Concordia. This example is serial number 1927, and oddly enough this number correlates to the year 1927. |
REGINA Tilman Elster collection This 1907 example is a Regina Model 3. |
REGINA Tilman Elster collection At right is a slightly later Regina Model 4, with serial number 18422. |
REGINA Tilman Elster collection At left is a Regina Model 7, serial number 23701. |

REGINA Tilman Elster collection Here, we will show a selection of REGINA machines, which appeared on the market around 1902 (which is the date of the Regina Model 2 seen here with serial number 185) and which were offered for about thirty years. Schilling & Kramer GmbH. |
PERKEO Tilman Elster collection The firm of Clemens Muller AF, Dresden is known for the production of two "lines" of typewriters. The earliest was the Urania, a standard introduced in 1909. This was supplemented by the Corona-based Perkeo in 1912. Eventually, the Perkeo was evolved into a four-bank machine and took the Urania name. Here is an Perkeo 1, produced 1920, with serial 7986. |
PERKEO Tilman Elster collection The machine at left is a Perkeo 3, representative of the machine as built from 1924 through 1933. It is serial number 66142. |
PRESTO Tilman Elster collection Perhaps better known as the Senta; these are name-variants. Manufactured by Frister & Rossmann, whose Caligraph copy is seen under the maker's name on this site. This Presto is serial number 5711. Built 1913-1926 in three-bank version. Four-bank version developed at that time, but dropped during the Great Depression. |
PRESTO Tilman Elster collection Serial number 9345, manufactured about 1921. |
PROTOS Tilman Elster collection The top label of this machine indicates manufacture by Zimmer & Co. (Limited partnership) of Frankfurt -- although there is certainly a great deal of Adler in this design. Only built 1922-1925; this example is serial number 5390. |
