SWIFT Thomas Fuertig collection On another page, we have seen the LLOYD, which is a very early version of the Stoewer standard, with three-bank keyboard. This design was replaced by a four-bank machine quickly, and this SWIFT (serial number 26654) is representative of the later design. This is a relabled variant of the Stoewer Record No. 5. Manufactured in Stettin, Germany. STOEWER Click here to see Stoewer standard & portable. |
Left, TITANIA No. 2, serial 756, Thomas Fuertig collection. Right, TITANIA No. 2, serial 535, Tilman Elster collection. The TITANIA was one of those machines which continued through time with the same name even as its manufacturers changed names and ownership. These two extremely early examples are labeled "Fabrikat Aktien-Ges. MIX & GENEST Schoneberg-Berlin," the first incarnation of the manufacturer. Later. the name Titania was included in this, and still later the company was known only by the Titania name. First built around 1910-1911. On the right, 1912 patent illustration of TITANIA. |

These two attractively decorated machines are actually relabeled versions of the VENUS, which itself can be seen on the proper page of this site. It should be noted that the serial numbers of these two TRANSATLANTIC machines are before and after that of the VENUS seen on this website. These are thought to date to the 1923-1925 time frame. |
