One of the advertising angles often employed for "cut rate" typewriters was that wherein the reader is encouraged to buy the typewriter as a medium through which great extra money can be made.  "If you don't have a typewriter, you can't do THIS, or THAT" is the basic scheme. 

Note that the date of this brochure is 1918, and the Rex Visible No. 4 is fitted with front ribbon selector switch by this date.  Above, the typewriter cropped and enlarged.
