Davis Typewriter Works -- page 3. |
AUGUST 30, 2006. On the left, we see one of the two work areas today; my rebuilt Underwood No. 5 is in the shop for cleaning out and preparation for display. Below, our latest project: the Monarch No. 3. |
Here are some "before" shots of this machine, which bears a rather short-lived labeling scheme. It is serial number 107517 and dates to 1913. In addition to a cracked frame, the machine has a really sticky escapement and very stuck linkages of all sorts. Bad platen, too, but not that bad. We are sure it'll fix up well, and will actually be fully operational. |
The new 2007 season has begun here at the Works as of the end of April! Several non-typewriter warmup projects have been started as well. Dave has restored an old lantern; he's also working on restoring and returning to working order an old Lawn-Boy 3-1/2 HP two-stroke mower and a formerly-running, formerly blue Briggs & Stratton powered four-stroker that's now been renamed "Big Red" by his wife Michelle. |
TYPEWRITER PROJECTS scheduled for this year include the still-waiting Monarch No. 3, a Royal KHM we just bought yesterday from a neighbor, at least two Smith-Corona portables (one of 'em actually a Sears TOWER relabel) which have various maladies, possibly a Woodstock and very possibly a Triumph standard. There might be more; we aren't sure yet. One thing is for sure -- it will be busy! |
