Formed in 1999, in the wake of the breaking-up of a previous band, guitarist Nick DeMaio and (former WBO) bassist Jeff Meyers recruited vocalist Tim Beaumont and (former WBO) drummer Bill Buckley to the line-up.  A few weeks later, Tom Fratilla joined the troops to handle keyboard and sampling duties.  In the following months, endless hours were spent in Jeff’s basement jamming and writing songs.  They didn’t really care at all what was going on in the music-world at that time.  All they cared about was rocking out to what they grew up listening to and what they knew best: heavy metal.  After only a few months as a band, the group hit a local studio and recorded a demo in which they heavily distributed around their area.  The tracks they recorded were placed on Mp3.com, and within a month were in the top-10 downloads in the category of “heavy metal” (outranking Danzig and Sevendust!).  From that point War Between One played every club that would allow them…from family restaurant / bars to opening spots and fests at large venues. These shows included acts such as Chimaira, Mushroomhead, Prong, All That Remains, Cattle Decapitation, Soilent Green, Dog Fashion Disco and many more.
Over the next two years, they recorded two more demos, which musically were going in a different direction than when they started.  In late 2002, the band began to no longer feel like a group of friends.  Musical and personal differences were becoming more and more of a problem at band rehearsals.  In late spring 2003 drummer Bill Buckley decided to leave the group to move on and pursue non-musical ventures.  This was a pivotal moment for the band because Bill was an integral part of War Between One’s sound, and someone that Nick and Jeff had played with for years.  The choice for a new drummer could have been a difficult one, however, it was not.  A close friend of the band (former Less Than Zero drummer) Lorne “Moe” Moskal was already interested in the role, and was one of Nick, Tim and Tom’s favorite drummers.  For them, there was no other choice.  Moe joined the group and immediately things tightened and focused.  His drumming abilities were very broad and this gave the other guys more room to experiment and go “balls-out”, you could say.  While the other members were focusing on a straight-up old- school metal vibe to their music, Jeff wanted to go more in the “rock” direction.  This, mixed with personal differences led to Jeff leaving the band again with another line-up change.  Again, the choice wasn’t difficult.  Ben Shaffer, a long time friend and supporter of War Between One was quick to pick up the spot.  Ben instantly blew the guys away by already knowing how to play all of their songs without having to be taught a single note!
After a few months of writing and jamming as a new tightened machine, they entered Mud Hut Studios in Sharon, Pa and recorded a new demo.  This demo was a positive sign of the true direction of War Between One.  It was a straight-up heavy metal CD in which at different moments its vibes ranged from Slayer to Black Sabbath to Neurosis.  Since then, they have been writing and rocking out in usual War Between one fashion. This past summer War Between One were a runner-up, getting cut last minute for the “Battle For Ozzfest” television series on MTV.  Since then, they have received numerous phone calls from random individuals affiliated with that production complimenting War Between One on their music, performance and interviews.
