Buddy was a cute little red-headed cat, who was born with a crooked nub of a tail and a funny waddle when he walked. He knew he was different, but he never let his handicap bother him. In fact his crooked tail and funny walk seemed to make him more lovable.
Buddy lived in an apartment home with a young woman he called Mom. The apartment was upstairs, even though it was small, he thought it was just right. He thought the bathroom was pretty neat, because it had two doors and he could run in one door and out the other.
The apartment had lots of places to hide - like a big closet filled with lots of stuff and at least twenty dark, cozy cabinets. He also had a big fluffy bed in the corner of his bedroom and his very own toy box!
However, his very favorite thing about the whole apartment was that it had two big windows and a big glass door, which opened on to a balcony. The windows and the door were all on the same side of the apartment and since they lived upstairs, he could see all kinds of things - including a big swimming pool and a long wooden bridge, which ran alongside a beautiful stream.
Every morning Buddy's mom would wake him up for breakfast and then, if the weather was nice, would let him go outside to play while she was at work. For the last three weeks - forever it seems - he had gotten up for breakfast each morning, but couldn't go outside because it had been raining and raining and raining.
He had finally decided it would never stop raining. So one morning when his mom called for him, he just curled back up in his fluffy little bed and went back to sleep. She kept calling for him, but he ignored her.
"I might as well sleep late," he thought, " since it will only be raining outside and I won't be able to go out and play." His mom called for him several more times, but Buddy kept on sleeping. He finally heard the door open and close when she left. "Good," he thought to himself, "now she'll stop bugging me while I'm trying to sleep."
