| ================== Cylinder Filling Machine ================== The Cylinder Filling Machine is used to stuff the rag stips into the cylinders (or canisters) that then fit into the fly shuttle. The drive belt was dry rotted. I used a thin flat piece of leather about 1/4" wide. Cut it long enough to wrap around the the two drive pulleys in a figure 8. I fastened the two ends together with a couple of staples from a desktop paper stapler. This has worked fine. A leather shoe string would probably work as well. To use the Filling Machine, thread the rag strips up through the eye hook and between the two pulleys (that are above the funnel). Then down the funnel into the cylinder that has been placed at the bottom of the funnel. Turning the large drive pulley will cause the smaller pulleys to turn and feed the rag strips into the funnel. As the rags feed in, use a batten to cram them into the cylinder. A broom handle or piece of pvc pipe will work for a batten. |
