Concept Artist Ian McCaig sketched literally hundreds of ideas for Queen Amidala and the Royal Handmaiden's costumes. He drew inspiration from a wide variety of sources, ranging from ancient Rome, Imperial China, Mongolia, Japan and Tibet to medieval Europe, then added a liberal amount of imagination. Costume Designer Trisha Biggar took these images and ideas as a starting point and eventually designed the beautiful gowns we saw in The Phantom Menace.
