The Cote Family | |||||||||||||
One of the first families in the French settlement of Beauport were the Cotes, headed by Anne Martin and Jean-Baptiste Cote; who were married in Robert Giffard's home on November 17, 1635. They would have nine children; seven of whom made it to adulthood to raise families of their own. Jean-Baptiste died in Quebec City on March 28, 1661; and by the 1666 census of Beauport, there were five members of the Cote household; which included a 20 year old servant, Michel Acoup. Anne was recorded as 63 and the widow of Jean Cote, and three of her sons, were then residing with her: Martin, Mathieu and Jean-Noel. The future of all of the Cote children can be found on the page dedicated to Anne. She died on December 04, 1684 |
