Marriageable Young Girls | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Despres Family | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
There were several members of the Despres family who factored into the early history of the Quebec colony. Two were sisters, who arrived as Filles A Marier: Anne and Genevieve; daughters of Nicolas, Sieur Des Prez and Madeleine Leblanc. A brother Nicolas arrived the Jesuit Missionary in Trois Rivieres, where he died on April 22, 1652; and sister Etienette; married to a Duplessis; also spent time in New France. There was a Marguerite Despres on the list of marriageable young girls, who may have been a relative; however, she does not appear to have followed through on her contract. The only Marguerite Despres at the time was married to Jean Loppe and the mother of Filles A Marier Renee Loppe. However, she remained in France. |
