The Merry Widow
Eleanore Grandmaison
(1619-1692)
Eleanore Grandmaison was born about 1619 at Clamency, Ninervois, Champagne, France; the daughter of Jean Grandmaison and Marie Ricada.  She would be married four times and left many descendants.

The first was to Antoine Boudier in 1634, but he died mysteriously the following year, leaving Eleonore a widow at the age of 16.  In 1636 she married Francois Chaumont Chavigny with whom she had six children.  Francois died on January 03, 1651 at Sea while returning to France on business, but the 31 year old Eleanore would not be widowed long, marrying Jacques Gordeau on August 13, 1652.

The ceremony was performed by Father Cahumont on the Isle D'Orleans, and is said to be the first performed on the island.
Monsieur Gourdeau de Bealulieu was a clerk to the Quebec Seneschal's Court and a Royal Notary.

She had five more children with Jacques.  Like her first husband, there was a lot of mystery and scandal concerning Jacque's death on May 20, 1663.  Apparently, he was murdered by one of his servants; burnt to death along with another domestic Nicolas Duval.  The servant was charged as an arsonist, and the
usual sentence was carried out for such a crime.  This involved first having his hands cut off, then hanged and burnt at the gallows.

Eleanore, the merry widow; added husband number four, Jacques Le Tessier on October 25, 1663.  He died on June 16, 1673 and the couple had no children.  Eleanore died on February 22, 1692 at the Parish of Ste-famille de L'isle d'Orleans, Quebec.
