After a day
in Oslo, I was all set for the fjords. So this was really going to come true!
Taking the first morning train to Flåm, it was an endless treat of spectacular
mountain ranges, lush greenery and gushing waterfalls. Flåm is served
by a private railway company called the Flåmsbana, but with the Inter-rail
pass, I only needed to pay something like 20% of the full-ticket price. Worth
every penny.

This
was stuff I only saw in geograhy textbooks and travel guides. And right then, it was before
my very eyes! It is U-shaped all right!, the result of hundreds of years
of glacier movements. |

When
the Flåmsbana train passed by this waterfall, the Kjosfossen, it would
stop and allow passengers to alight and experience the force of this gushing
waterfall. Care-less about getting wet, I ventured to the edge of the platform.
The deafening roar of the waterfall, the cool engulfing mist and the breathtaking
view...can't get more real than that! |
