Caryn came onto the skating scene in the 1985 U.S. National Championships in which she won a bronze medal. She won two more bronze and one silver in national competitions. Her career culminated in a bronze medal at the 1987 World Figure Skating Championships.
Caryn was unable to participate in the 1988 Olympic Games because of sickness that led to throat surgery. After recovering from that, she was unable to participate in the 1989 National Championships for an additional surgery. Since turning professional in 1989, she has won numerous competitions, including the Canadian Professional Championships and the Ladies Professional Championships, in which she is the reigning champion.
