In 2004 the yearly open days of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF), where held at
Volkel Air Base. The Air Base is located in the province of Noord Brabant in the Netherlands.
The open days where held on Friday 18 June and Saturday 19 June 2004. Volkel Air Base is
the home base of three Squadrons flying with the General Dynamics F-16AM/BM Fighting
Falcon. The Squadrons are 306, 311 and 312. Also there is a civil MD900 helicopter based,
that’s flying from Volkel as a trauma helicopter. At the Open Days there was a static show of
aircraft and material of the Air Force and an air show of helicopters, transport aircraft, fast
jets, and display teams. Not only the aircraft of the RNLAF where on display, but also a lot
of aircraft from abroad, such as the Belgium Air Force, France Air Force, German Air Force,
Italian Air Force, NATO, Royal Air Force, Swiss Air Force and the USAF. There where a
lot of war birds in the static and flying display and also civilian aircraft at the static display.
The major theme this year was, 25 years of F-16 Fighting Falcon in service with the RNLAF.
A special badge was made for the RNLAF Open Days 2004.
