Mission Statement:

The mission of the WEVFD is to protect Life, Property, and the well being of ALL whom reside within the Town of Elmira Fire District #1 as well as educate the public on Fire Safety and provide mutual aide to any neighboring Department during their time of need.

Live fire training

The West Elmira Vol. Fire Department is located at 1299 W. Water Street in the Town of Elmira, Chemung County, New York. Members often train at the New York State Fire Academy located in Montour Falls, New York. Members are trained in the following areas : firefighting, EMS, confined space rescue, rope rescue,river / fast water rescue, code enforcement, fire/arson Investigation, public relations, woodland search & rescue, among others.

Fire District #1 contains the residential area of the Town of Elmira and is bordered to the south by the Chemung River, to the north by West Hill. Included within it's jurisdiction are two elementary schools, two apartment complexes, three churches, two synagouges, and several small business's.

The Fire Department works very closely with the West Elmira Police Department and is located directly next to the Town Hall complex at 1255 W. Water Street, Elmira, NY 14905.
