BELIZE TREES AND PLANTS:
I was in Belize (and Tikal, Guatemala) in November 2003.

CAYE CAULKER:

This is an island about 25 mile northeast of Belize City.

Red Mangroves (Rhizophora mangle) at Water's Edge
A Large Sea Grape (Coccoloba uvifera)
Geiger Tree/Xericote (Cordia sebestena)
Everglades Palms (Acoelorrhaphe wrightii)
(Yes...the Everglades palm IS native to Belize, in addition to parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Bahamas, and of course Florida.)

Black Poisonwood (Metopium brownei)
(Touching this poison-ivy relative (from the Anacardiaceae family) can create a poison-ivy-like rash.)

Cocoplum (Chrysobalanus icaco)
Large Tropical Almond (Terminalia catappa)


INLAND BELIZE:

Give-and-Take Palm (Cryosophila stauracantha)
(The give-and-take palm has many thorns that are supposed to be very painful.)

Silver pimento palm (Schippia concolor)
Pines on the Mountain Pine Ridge of Belize
(Pines native to the area include the Caribbean Pine (Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis) and Pinus oocarpa.)

American Oil Palm (Either Attalea butyracea or Attalea cohune)
Philodendron on a steep slope
