HENRY S. BOYD |
… 2 Henry S. BOYD was born 17 April 1780 in Virginia and died 21 April 1856 in Roane County, TN. He married Susannah M. BAUMGARDNER, daughter of Fredrick BAUMGARDNER, on 29 December 1808 in Wythe County, Virginia. Susannah was born 19 February 1784 in York County, Pennsylvania and was christened 4 April 1784 in Christ Evangical, York County, Pennsylvania. She died 9 September 1858 in Roane County, Tennessee. NOTES for Henry: (1)First appeared in Roane Co, TN about 1832, the same time that Joseph Grubb and Lucinda Boyd Grubb.... (2)Henry never owned land in TN, however his three unmarried daughters purchased acreage on Bear Creek in 1845. I believe that they bought this land for Henry and Susannah to live on.... (3)He and Michael Boyd were at many estate sales during the 1830's and 1840's buying numerous items.... (4)Was taken to court several times for debts that he owed.... (5)Many show him as son of Rev War soldier William Boyd who died in Roane Co, TN in 1847.. I DO NOT believe he is a son of this William... (6)In 1841 Henry was imprisoned for assault and battery for bodily injury to William Nail, bond made by Henry & Micahel Boyd and Wm Scott.... (7)Possible brothers: Michael, Bartlot, also Jeremiah (moved to TN). Bartlot and Jeremiah and Henry are on the 1810 census Washington Co, VA.... (8)In the 1820 census for Washington County, VA; Henry is listed Wtn 195A, there is also a Sarah same place. In the 1820 Washington County, TN, there is a Jeremiah along with a Bartlett. Jeremiah sold property in Washington County, VA in 1817 then appearing in Washington Co, TN in 1820.... (9)A will for a Henry Boyd is in Washington County, TN and he names a son Henry. But this is not my Henry. (10)No proof that Henry ever had a male child. Not on census records or tax records in VA or TN. INTERVIEW: With Mrs. B. Grubb 1998, Lenoir City, Loudon County, TN, confirmed my belief that Lucinda Grubb, Margaret Copeland and Mary Wahoo Christenberry are sisters. There is a Bible record of Mary Wahoo's that has Henry . and Susannah M Baumgardner Boyd as her parents. The marriage date and the christening date of Susannah are the same that is found in Court records and Church records. BIRTH: 17 April 1780, VA. (Mary Christenberry published Bible record) MARRIAGE: Henry Boyd to Susannah M Baumgardner, 29 December 1808, Wythe County, VA. CENSUS: (1)1810 VA, Washington Co, pg 735; Henry Boyd, 001-001; 1 male 26-45, 1 female 16-26. (2)1820 VA, Washington Co, pg 195A; Henry Boyd, 000001-4101; 1 male 26-45; 4 females, 0-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 26-45. NOTE: It is claimed by a researcher that Henry had a son Henry Jr. If there was a Henry Jr. why doesn’t he show on some tax list somewhere or a census record. When a male reaches the age of 21 he pays a poll tax whether he owns land or not. And Henry S. was never referred to as Henry Sr. I will go into more detail later under Henry’s daughter Susannah M. Note: the number of daughters on this census and notice the lack of male children. (3)1830 VA, Wythe Co, pg 315; Susannah M. Boyd, 000001-0222001 2 females 5-10, 2 females 10-15, 2 females 15-20, 1 female 40-50. NOTE: I presume that Susannah was marked as head of household because Henry wasn’t with her in Wythe Co, TN. He may have not even been in Washington Co...where they had been living. I believe that Susannah and her daughters came back to Wythe County because of her father, Frederick’s death. He died in Wythe County just a couple years before. ****Another census record shows...1830 VA Wythe Co, pg 315 Susannah Boyd, 000001-0222001. This male in household is not Henry...it was possibly a brother or her oldest daughters husband. (4)1840 TN, Roane Co, pg 67; Henry Boyd, age 60-70, 10100001-001112001; 1 male 0-5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 50-60; 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 2 females 30-40, 1 female 50-60. NOTE: Who are the 2 male children? One of these boys might be Fernando C. Boyd born about 1840. I believe that the other one is also a granchild. Fernando is with John and Susannah Thompson in the 1860 census, age 20. (5)1850 TN, Roane Co, Subdivison 20, pg 405B; Henry Boyd, 70,m,w,VA,Farmer; Susannah M, 65,f,w, PA; Elizabeth S, 35,f,w,VA,v.R/E $150; John H COPELAND, 9,m,w,TN; Elizabeth J COPELAND, 7,f,w, TN; Amanda J THOMPSON, 4,f,w,TN.
