I have collected many events for George Preston but do not have some of the source.  When I first began to research I did not keep very good notes.  I apologize if I use information and have not given credit to the person whom it belongs.  Thanks to EVERYONE that has helped me on this line... .1  George PRESTON Sr. was born 21 February 1769 in Botetourt County, Virginia.  He died 25 April 1808 in Roane County, Tennessee.   He married Jane or Jean LOONEY on 5 June 1787 in Botetourt County, Virginia. Jane or Jean was born 21 April 1771 in Botetourt County, Virginia to Capt. Joseph LOONEY and Jean or Jane BOWEN.  She died 17 February 1858 in Kingston, Roane County, Tennessee.

I have some information on the Looney and Bowen families.

NOTE: These notes are from several sources including articles and books by Mr. Snyder Roberts and/or Robert L. Bailey.
(1)Preston was a very prominent name in VA.
(2)George was one of the first seven Commissioners for the Town of Kingston in 1799.
(3)On 29 September 1800 he was commissioned as Capt in Knox Co, Militia Reg and on 20 December he was commissioned a Second Major in Sevier's regiment.
(4)Was one of the 1st twelve Justices to be appointed by the Governor for Roane County.
(5)Served as State Senator representing Roane and Anderson Counties in 1806-1808.
(6)6th General Assembly, 1805-1807, represented Roane, Anderson and Knox Co's.
(7)7th General Assembly, 1st session, September 24 - December 4, 1807, represented Roane, Anderson, Bledsoe, Rhea, and part of Campbell County.  He died before the 2nd session, his vancancy was filled by William Brown..
(8)Reached the height of his political career on 27 September 1807 when Kingston was the capital of TN for one day.
(9)He was an early settler and jurist in portion of Knox County which later included Roane County in 1801.
(10)Named by legislature, 1799, a commissioner for organization of Kingston, to fall within Roane County boundries.
(11)Named justice of the peace at organization of Roane County.
(12)Senator George Preston introduced sundry resolutions entered into by the citizens of Roane County.
(13)Senator Preston was instrumental in having Kingston be the capital of TN for one day.  He was also trying to pass a bill where Kingston would be the permanent capital for TN.  Did not pass.
(14)Senator George Preston died at an early age of 39.
(15)In 1798 George Preston was living on land on Third Creek in Knox County, which was once owned by Thomas N. Clark.
(16)Never purchased land in Roane County, TN; perhaps he bought when Roane was a part of Knox.
(17)Is said to be a native of PA in an article about some of his descentants in St Clair County, Missour.
 
BIBLE:  This Bible is thought to be the Bible of George Preston Jr….But, the first person listed in it is George Preston Sr.  George Preston Senior was born the 21st day of February 1769; Jane Looney was born the 21 day of April 1771; George Preston and Jane Looney his Wife was married the 5th day of June 1787; George Preston Deceased the 25th day of April 1808.  George Preston Juniors's.  This Bible is in possession of Gaylene Bartlett, San Jose, CA.  She mailed me a copy November 1999.

Another Preston, George and Jean Luney, dau of Joseph Luney married 14 May 1787. "Early Marriages, Wills, and some Rev War Records, Botetourt Co, VA" by Worrell, pg 38.
 
MILITARY: Commissioned Capt in Knox Co, regiment, Tennessee Militia, 29 Sep 1800, commissioned 2nd Maj same regiment 20 Dec, 1800, Capt Richard Oliver's Co.
 
DEATH: Senator George Preston died in 1808 at the age of 39. The 1808 Roane Co, tax list refers to Jean Preston widow.
 
WILL: George died before 20 June 1808 when James Preston & Jane Preston were appointed administrators, with Jos Looney, Michael Baker and Wm Lamkin as security (Roane Co, Ct Minutes c/161. Abraham Bogart and Jane Bogart were appointed guardians of James, M____, Jesse, Jane, Mildred, Polly, and Geo Preston.

(2)6 Jan 1804 George Preston to Cumberland Rector, both of Roane Co 30A on bank of TN River below the mouth of Hinds Valley Creek for $100. Sig: George Preston Attest: Joseph Looney. Deed Bk B, pg 411. Execution of said deed by Oath of Joseph Looney Senr. Recorded 13 Jul 1808..
(3)26 Apr 1824, A deed of conveyance from James Preston & others to Abraham Bogart for 190 acres more or less on TN River. Bewteen James Preston, Moses Preston, Jessee Preston, Elijah Farmer and Jane his wife formerly Jane Preston, William Vaughn and Milly his wife formerly Milly Preston and William Bogart and Mary his wife formerly Mary Preston heirs of George Preston deceased all of the Co Roane and state of TN and Abraham Bogart of the same county. The heirs sold for $125. to each of them their respective shares of 190 acres more or less being on TN River and on the East bank of Hines Valley Creek, including the Island in said creek. Sig: James Preston, Moses Preston, Jesse Preston, (blank), Jane (x her mark), William Vaughn, Milly Vaughn, William Bogard, Mary Bogard Attest: John Brown, Dan'l Wester. April Session 1824 in Roane Co, TN. Deed bk F-1 pg 250-251.

DEED: Jane bought additional land after George’s death….(1)30 Mar 1811, Roane Co, TN, Deed Bk C-1 pg 298-299; Deed of conveyance John Hays to Jane Preston, widow for the sum of $500. for 120 acres in Hinds Valley both of Roane Co, TN. Beginning on widow Presons line, adjacent Sam'l Prestons line, Cumberland Rector and Franklin Breazelle, Richard Talbert and John Hays line. Sig: John Hays Test: John Freeman, James Preston Recorded 16 Apr 1811. 

ESTATE: (1)Estate Bk A pg 24, June Session 1808, "on the motion of James Preston and Jane Preston who made oath and together with Joseph Luney, Michael Baker, and William Lamkin their securities entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the Penalty of $6,000 conditioned as the Law directs and Certificate is granted them for obtaining letters of Administration of the Estate of George Preston, deceased, in due form."..
