Richard Brown Wilburn was born in Tuscaloosa, AL in June 1840. At a very young age he and his family migrated to Texas. His father Richard Wilbourn, was born in North or South Carolina and died about 1856 in DeWitt County, TX. His mother was Permelia Minter.
Richard Brown Wilburn had several siblings. Their names were: (1) Andrew (Anderson?), (2) George, (3) John L., (4) James M., (5) Ebenezer, (6) Sara Wilburn Phillips, (7) Martha H. Wilburn Cheatham, and (8) Elizabeth Permelia Wilburn McNeill.
Richard Brown Wilburn also had half-siblings from his father's previous marriage(s). The only ones we can positiviely identify were: Mackerness "Mac" Goode Wilbourn.,b. abt 1816 SC, and Mac's sister Elizabeth Wilburn Minter, b. abt 1820 SC. There appears to be others, but positive identification alludes us at this time.
It appears that Richard Brown Wilburn's father (Richard Wilbourn) was married at least two times. We believe his first wife's name was Mrs. Rebecca Gillaspy and they were married July 3, 1793 in SC. Richard Wilbourne married Permelia Minter in Edgefield County SC in 1820 although we have probate documents that indicate that it might have been earlier. Permelia was part Cherokee or Choctaw Indian from her mother's side and was related to the Chisums/Chisholms of the famous trail route.
Permelia's father was Mackerness Goode Minter, b. circa 1775 d. Edgefield County, SC 1819; and her mother's name was Delilah (maiden name unknown). Permelia's siblings were: (1) William Minter b. circa 1795; (2) Martha Ann Minter who married Tandy Martin Key in Carroll CO, MS; (3) Mackerness Minter Jr., b. circa 1807; (4) James Minter b. circa 1805 who married Elizabeth Wilbourn; (5) Ebenezer Minter b. circa 1812 who married Mary Wilbourn; (6) and John Minter. Most of them were in Yalabousha CO, MS in the mid 1830's, and Ebenezer Minter eventually moved to Gonzalez County, TX.
Richard Brown Wilburn was a Texas Ranger and fought in the Cortinas Wars near Brownsville, Tx. He was a Captain in the CSA during the Civil War. His unit was made up of an irregular group of volunteers, and called the "Cavalry of the West."

Wilburn Brothers in Oakville, Live Oak County, TX - Circa 1860 The above photo was taken about 1860. We believe it was taken in Oakville, Live Oak County, TX. at a wedding ceremony. The only information we have about this picture is the men in it were called the "Wilburn" brothers. This photo and information was passed down from Elizabeth Wilburn Torres, to her husband Jose, to their son Miguel, and to Miguel's daughter Isabel Torres.
We believe they may be Richard Brown Wilburn's brothers and half brothers. If they are they could be Ebeneezer, James, Thomas, Max, John, and Richard himself. Dr. Marvel E. McNeil may also be in this photo. He married Elizabeth P. Wilburn in Oakville, TX in Jan 1857. We believe the young Richard Brown Wilburn may be the one front-center.

For those of you who are interested in this Genealogy web site please "down load" all this information and photos on to you own diskettes, or at least the photos and specific family history that interests you. Very Important Information
This is very important because it has taken a considerable amount of time to collect all this information, and sometimes information and/or web sites are lost by the host server.
In addition, once the webmaster dies, the content of this web site eventualy dies with him -- by this I mean it is eventually deleted from the WWW if not updated within a specific period of time.
If there are any Wilburn/Willborn/Wilborn kin related to individuals on this site who are HTML coding knowledgeable; and also interested in keeping the family history (genealogy) up to date, please contact me. Also, I would prefer someone with a real interest in Family Genealogy who is much younger than me. I am placing this notice on our Family Web Site because my health has been giving problems the last couple of years and I would hate to see this web site disappear should something happen to me.
