Green Darner Dragon Fly

Nicknamed the “Snake Doctor” or “Darning Needle”, this dragonfly likes to perch near ponds on the shore and slow moving streams. They are found throughout North America and are less common in the West. They like to eat midges, mosquitoes, caddisflies and other flying insects. Sometimes they like to eat tadpoles, small fish and aquatic insects. The Green Darner is one of the fastest and biggest of the common dragonflies.
