Vampires

Born from a desperate genetic experiment to save mankind, the vampire mutation strain turned out to be a hellish plague in and of itself. Designed after the infamous AIDS virus, spreading through blood contact to allow the mutation strain to be transmited only by will. The disease latches to and modifies Human D.N.A. so quickly that the rest of the body can not reject the infected cells.  The modifications to D.N.A. expands the victims perception and heightens the five senses. By increasing cell reproduction frequency, it enables unheard-of regenerative qualities, also allowing for large build up of muscles. Another prominant feature is the addition of the negligible scenescence gene, which allows infinate cell reproduction until the organism is destroyed, essentially allowing "eternal youth"... but the material for the gene must also be harvested from those with Human D.N.A.  The scientist who created the desease also had strong philosophical views, and believed mankind to fall into one of two classes; naturally good or naturally evil. The vampire genetic strand is meant to express evil. Thus the Vampires were given wings, though the generation of them is hard and painful and they can't be efficiently used without years of strengthening their muscles; they are the "trademark" symbol of the Vampires.  With all the perks of vampirism there comes several major flaws; the disease constantly drains magic and because of a defifficiency in the altered D.N.A., it can not be produced naturally, so it must be harvested. To harvest magic, a Vampire must take a magic injection or drink the blood of someone who is not magic deficient. Another inherit flaws is the vampires limited weight. Because their wings are physical and powered by real muscles there is a maximum amount of mass they can carry before the surface area and strength of the wing muscles become insufficient to carry the individual without risking tearing the thin leathery membrane making up most of the wing or breaking the bones. As an immediate result of this Vampires can’t exceed a certain weight limit and still be able to fly that weight limit is determined by the size of their wings. The maximum weight a vampires wings can carry is 250 pounds and the maximum height they can fly is estimated at 1,500 feet. Another problem posed by the wings are during the birth of a vampire child most need to be delivered by cesarean section due to chance of having the wings cought.    Before the disease completely sets in it is common to have dizzy spells, headaches, and nausea. Vampires are the most reverred of the new races, and for good reason; they are strong, dangerous and have been know to annihilate Riot and S.W.A.T. teams.
