Set in 1939 New Orleans, the story centers on Charles B. Barkin, a rougish German Shepard with a con man's charm and a marshmallow heart. Out for revenge against his double-corssing former partner, the pit bull Carface, Charlie finds himself the guardian to a lonely little orphan named Anne-Marie.
