Dragons and Kings (poem) by Will Douglas I don't know the things you know About dragons and griffons and kings And I don't know the Northshield lore Of princes and tourneys and things All that I know is what I feel And what I can see around me I'm still kinda new to this game of ours So these things can still astound me Like Christian creating a Masque As had never been done before Or two hundred hoods sewed up for the king And a hundred and fifty more And Tor Aerie making a viking ship Inside of one week flat Or six hundred site tokens made in one night By a tired dub dub autocrat And a quiet little 12th night event That went kingdom when a Northshielder conquered And our raffle goddess who rose to the task And set a new Nordskogen record Or a song that was once performed during feast That left a royal heir staring A song of the Northshield moving and wise That spoke of our spirit of caring I don't know the things you know About dragons and griffons and kings And I don't know the Northshield lore Of princes and tourneys and things All that I know is what I feel And what I can see around me I'm still kinda new to this game of ours So these things can still astound me (copyright (c) 2004 by Douglas Cox) Background: Every bard I hang around with in Northshield has written a great patriotic song. They all know the history and stuff, and they write instant standards, which everybody joins in on at bardic circles and post revels. I don't know all that stuff, so I had to write something different. This is it. It was meant to be a song, but I couldn't get the verses to come out to the same tune, so it's a poem. Sorry. Debut: Tor Aerie's 'practice bardic circle', Fall A. S. XXXVIII |
