20 Jun 04 Hello again! It has been a very long time! :-) I truly did not even realize this web site still existed until an old friend contacted me via email after finding our site. After struggling for a little while to try to remember how to access and update the site, I think I've updated all of the pages and links. There is not much new on the site yet other than our new contact information and this journal post, but hopefully there are no more dead links or obsolete postings. If you find anything that needs my attention, please let me know. Wow! How can I cover almost two years in one journal entry? I guess I can't. I'll just start with where we are and what we're doing now, and move forward. We are now living in Gulfport, Mississippi, about a mile from the beach. I was accepted for a special duty assignment as an instructor here at Keesler Air Force Base. I am teaching Intrusion Detection Systems Fundamentals in the 338th Training Squadron, aka the "Dark Knights". We moved here in February of this year. I just finished teaching my first block last Thursday. I was extremely fortunate to start out with an exceptional class. Out of a class of five students, four scored 100% on the block test, and one (who missed an entire day because his wife just gave birth to a baby) scored a 90%. All of the students were very capable and disciplined, and the class leader (a National Guard TSgt) was very helpful and encouraging. It made for a very positive first teaching experience. Amy and I bought a house here in Gulfport. It is about 25 minutes from Keesler. It is in an old neighborhood, but it is a newly built house, so we were able to get a new house for a mortgage we could afford. Amy found employment quickly as a teller with the Keesler Federal Credit Union (KFCU). She works full time at the D'Iberville branch just 10 minutes from Keesler. We're thankful for the second income because my income plummeted when we left Italy and stopped receiving the cost of living allowance (COLA) we were accustomed to there. We are relatively certain we have found a church home at First Baptist Biloxi. The Pastor there relies heavily on the Word of God for his sermons, and we have been impressed with the people we've met so far. I am training for a marathon scheduled for this November 27th here on the Gulf Coast. I, William M. Catts, who smoked for 16 years until last November, am actually going to attempt to run 26.2 miles! I have so far worked myself up to an 8-mile long run. I have several months left to train, and I'm sure I'll need every bit of that time to get ready. :-) My kids, Amanda (13), Mariah (9), and David (7), are coming to stay with us for a month beginning next Saturday. We are very excited for that, and we are doing our best to prepare for their visit this weekend. That's an extremely brief synopsis of what's going on in our lives right now. Our new schedule does not include much free time, but, as I am able, I will try to post new journal entries and other things of interest to this web site again. God bless you all! |
