09-12-02-Yeah,
the kids are back in school and that means it's time to start rockin' again.
Check the shows page for new shows. There's a new WRC clubhouse,
called the Indy Haus after the inhabitants' love for the racing arts.
Stop by and play some Jenga. Ariel will do a real update soon.
03.26.02-Both
the Surface of Eceon and Acid Mothers Temple show went very well, thanks
to all those who attended. Unfortunately, they do not understand live music
that is not in the vein of Dave Matthews band at Lodge 1, and the cops
were called for the Acid Mothers Temple show. You can read the band comments
about it on their bulletin board Hello
Acid Brothers and Sisters. To quote the cops "They may not understand
English, but they'll understand behind bars." Thats all for now. Thanks.
03.11.02-
New shows are posted, new links are posted, and some new news too. Also,
there is a bulletin board that can be used for lots of different things,
so have fun with that. Within the week, I will post a new page that contains
lots of directions of how to get to all the different places in williamsburg.
If you really need to know how to get to a show in the meantime, you can
e-mail me and I will direct
you. In other news, school sucks.
02.05.02
announcing the return of the WRC Richmond alumni hacker. Ariel ain't
doin her job anymore, I guess she isn't down with the kids. New news:
* Fuckin' Remotes
broke up. Who cares, they sucked since they added that loser second guitarist
anyways.
* But don't
get yr panties in a bunch: Times Ten has their first show on Fri. Feb.
8 at the Meridian opening for the Can Utility and playing with nice guy
Richmond band Red Angel Dragnet. Times Ten is Sarah (ex-Buddy System, Make
Believes), KJ (ex-Family), and Jamie (ex-Remotes, Make-Believes, Octobers,
etc.etc.) so they are a superstar WRC powerhouse.
*Oh yeah, speaking
of the Octobers, they broke up too, but look for a new band with Duane,
Jamie, and Alistair of the Octobers and KJ of Times Ten. They are reportedly
going to be called Harsh Realm.
Yeah yeah,
since I don't actually live in Williamsburg anymore, I probably don't know
all the WRC news that's going down, so pester Ariel until she actually
puts some shit up here. Peace out.
11.6.01
added a bunch of upcoming shows. I think brendan reed is going to do some
redesigning of the site soon(!). Here are some things that I want to put
on the website soon- directions to all venues in williamsburg, a bulletin
board for people looking for band members, a history of williamsburg rock
city. e-mail me with ideas. thanks.
11.5.01 Special
Campus Cops Update Well, first of all, boyracer and huon cancelled
less than a week before the show, so they did not come. But the show went
on without them at the eco house. The line-up was Hans Jaguar, Fretful
Bougeriouses (curse the french and their freakish use of vowels), How The
West Was Lost, and the Remotes. However, about 2 songs into How the West
Was Lost's set, the cops burst in to break up and the show and threatened
to arrest everyone for disorderly conduct. apparently someone accidently
broke the front door of the eco house trying to prop it. There are two
cool parts to this story though- one, we moved the show right over the
the meridian and how the west was lost and the remotes were excellent.
two, jamie from the remotes was taping htwwl and got the whole cop thing
on tape, which is going to make an awesome sample when that wrc gangsta
rap group gets together. look for more upcoming shows in the shows section.
10.15.01-
Gee, I wonder who could possibly be the mysterious hacker? Today brings
us the exciting news that boyracer will be coming to Williamsburg on November
3rd with a band from Australia called Huon as well as the ever popular
Remotes. It will be at the Meridian (pending confirmation) and cost $5.
Start spreading the word please. This is the obligatory part of the news
update where I promise to start doing a better job with the website and
e-mail list. hey, I'm a busy girl. sincerely, the notorious scenester.
10.12.02-
Attention attention, this page has been hacked in order to bring you the
latest WRC news, or in this case, TOP SECRET GOSSIP!
Top Item: Has
Williamsburg Rock City ringleader and web mistress AK Acosta disappeared?
Wburg is buzzing after the WRC page goes unedited for an entire month,
forcing the Richmond branch of the WRC alumni group to spring into action.
Item: Incestuous
WRC band news: A) word has it that an ex-Remote, a notorious scenester,
2/3rds of How the West was Lost, and a shadowy stranger have formed a new
group called the Freedom Project. Judging from the name, they are an emo
band. B) that same ex-Remote is also in a new 6-piece band
with an ex-Family member, local heartthrob Jamie Green, and others, called
the Octobers. Judging from the name, they are either an emo band or a U2
tribute band. They are playing on Halloween at 412 haus. C) A different
ex-Family member and an ex-Buddy System member have a new band called Times
Ten, and are looking for a drummer. Check out their page here.
Item: sources
say that there is a hot new practice space in town, upstaging Psi U and
even the Eco house as the place to rock. Members include the Octobers and
the Freedom Project and will soon include the Remotes and Times Ten.
Item: The Unpopular
Science page is new and special. Click here.
Item: The WCWM
page has also been updated and is now cool. Click here. That's all
for this time. Rock on.
9.12.01-
well, in light of yesterday, I really hope everyone's family and friends
are ok. I'm sorry I haven't updated the page in a really really long time,
and I'm especially sorry I didn't update it for the AMAZING remotes/how
the west was lost/peter maybarduk show. if you haven't seen these bands
live, you need to. there is going to be a show the oranges band in the
next two weeks, and you should go. the radio station is up and running
(90.7 FM) and you should listen. and, if you hate pop ups as much as I
do, you should give me some money so I can not have them. but it's cool
if you don't. This website will improve in the coming weeks. thank you.
6.17.01-
hello from williamsburg. the radio station should start this week so if
you are in town you should turn in. if you are in a band, be advised that
I am not doing shows during the summer, but send me an e-mail
if you'd like to talk about a show for the fall. Brendan Reed has moved
to Montreal. Nick from the Buddy System joined the Remotes, and they are
going to change their name. Maybe to the Damn Dirty Apes. Which is a Planet
of the Apes reference, for all of you who think Planet of the Apes is the
new Mark Wahlberg movie. Sarah from the Buddy System is looking for a new
band in Richmond. Oh yeah, if I don't have any mp3s from you by the end
of June, you aren't on the Williamsburg Rock City comp. So hurry up. The
CDs will be ready for the big welcome back blow-out show in early september.
I guess thats all for now.
5.20.01-
As you can see, Brendan Reed has
done a lot of work on the website. Thanks, Brendan. Check out his website-
it changes all the time but he usually has lots of mp3s of his various
musical projects up. It's summer now and Williamsburg is quiet, but there
are some Special
K's shows coming up. The WRC compilation CD and zine will be finished
someday, and WCWM will start broadcasting whenever the summer session starts.
OK, bye.
4.01.01-
Added a bunch more links today. The show last night at the meridian was
PACKED. Hopefully the Q and Not U show today will be packed as well. You!
Go to the show!
3.31.01-
Nick and I are hard at work on the Williamsburg Rock City comp. Right now
we have tracks from the Remotes, Buddy System, Cantilever, Pretense, Running
Against the Spin of the Earth, Ashcan Betty (I think),Charlie's band FOX
Japan. Hopefully we will also get tracks from Jamie Green and Matt Henry.
If you have something to submit, now would be the time to do see. E-mail
the new hip williamsburg rock city address at williamsburgrock@yahoo.com.
I think mp3s are a little too big to send via e-mail, but something can
be arranged. speaking of mp3s, I'm trying to work out a way to put some
stuff up on the web. And what else.... lotsa shows
coming up. so go. thank you.
3.26.01-
This website is under major reconstructive surgery. Pictures are being
scanned, html for dummies is being consulted, links are being added. If
you have anything, anything, to contribute please e-mail me. Right now
I am trying to upload some mp3s of local bands, but chickpages is not letting
me. I'll work on that problem some day when I don't have an impending art
history test. In the mean time, the shows page and links page are being
updated almost every day, so check back frequently. And don't forget to
sign the guestbook.
3.16.01-
Please go to the show tomorrow night at the meridian. It'll be a fun time
and the meridian will be festively decorated in all the lovely shades of
green. Our student organization idea was brushed off by mark constantine.
However, the guys in the Campus Musicians Union have basically invited
us to come take over next year because they are graduating. I urge all
of you to join the CMU, because that will allow you to book shows on campus.
And I really need help. As much as I'd love to bring everybody's friend's
band to williamsburg, I can't. Booking shows is not that hard if you know
what you're doing. So yeah, come join the campus musicians union and do
something with your life. The Buddy System is going to break up and I cry
myself to sleep everynight. So go see their last show whenever that is
because they are so so so so good.
3.11.01-
Thanks to all for making the Dalek/Barman show a huge sucess. People drove
from far away towns to come to the show, which shows that Williamsburg
has mad potential to be a cool town. We have two huge shows coming up (Q
and not U, and possibly the Dismemberment Plan), as well as big Battle
of DJs. And of course, lots of shows from the local favorites. There are
exciting things in store for the website. Also, I have an e-mail list for
show info. E-mail me to be added and
you will always be current. ttfn/ scenesters.
2.08.01-
big weekend coming up. check the shows
page for more details. Nick and I are still harrassing Mark Constatine
about the proposed Williamsburg Music Resourse (aka WRC in disguise), in
which we could have official meetings and school support (aka some money
to make fliers and a real website.) The Buddy System played at Cogans in
Norfolk last week, and they were really good and everybody liked them except
for this punk rock Marine from South Carolina who told Jamie he didn't
like "faggot indie rock stuff." Anyways, they are gonna play there again
and it's gonna be cool. And the show on February 1st was awesome, thanks
to everyone for coming out to that. Thats all I can think of for now, except
that I have a lot of pictures to scan. byebye.
1.28.01-
thanks to everyone stopped by the show last night. next time, let's try
to not all leave before the last band. The Grey AM set the drums on fire
(please don't tell anyone official about this), and Cadillac Blindside
were really great. anyways, it was fun and peru might be coming back to
williamsburg later. also, check the shows
page since the line-up and tentative order for the show on thursday
has been announced. This show is going to be free and going to feature
many many area bands. Please come and check it out. The MC Paul Barman/Dalek
show is still under works. The radio station is working on a huge battle
of the djs, but I don't know anything about that. Thats all for now.
1.16.01-
Welcome to the 21st century, motha f@!#ers!!!!!!!! hahaha. There is so
much news it's insane. The Remotes got back from the Midwest tour and have
t-shirts and cdr's for sale (get it at mutantpop).
Nick and I started a new Student Organization so that we could book lots
of shows and help people out starting bands and stuff. Jed Davies and I
are gonna do some big huge all encompasing Williamsburg show so that people
will finally stop being moronic about going to only Psi U shows or only
Meridian shows or whatever. The scene will be unified. So, we are doing
all this work with you so you will have something to do. What do you have
to do? Show up!!!! Alright later.
1.05.01-
yeah I suck. I never update. sorry. anyways, I sent an e-mail to lovitt
records about shows. soon I'll start talking to other local record labels
like maybe even dischord. I met guy piccioto at the mla conference I was
working at, so now we are best friends. sorta. he asked what my name was,
so that was a start to being best friends. and I've been reading a lot
of books about rock n roll. and watching a lot of tony hawk on espn. and
practicing guitar. soon I will start a band. um, what's the other news?
the remotes are on tour, their srcd is out on mutant pop. they will have
t0shirt soon that I designed. um, I got a 50 dollar gift certificate to
now music and fashion and I bought a lot of records and still have 20 dollars
left. the scene is on winter break hiatus so thats why I'm talking about
myself so much. bye.
12.6.00-
well I was going to make an "info" page but chickpages was being cranky
and now I don't feel like it anymore. Maybe I will later on. Not too much
else to report. Make sure you bring everyone you know to the slow jets
show. I'm outtie.
12.4.00-
so the great scene page update will continue later today. look for more
pics, more links, more e-mails, more info in general. and also details
about julia's covert operation to infiltrate UCAB. ok. go to the show on
Saturday nite.
12.3.00-
I was recently contacted by a band called shindig.
the dude told me they were "emo dance pop." the show should be for sometime
in january. karen from the teen dance ordinance of Charlottesville, VA
wants to play before the end of the semester. I don't think that will be
possible, but hopefully teen dance ordinance will return to williamsburg
soon. I (meaning ariel, duh) am going to be starting a record label next
semester in order to promote the scene or some other shit that hardcore
kids say all the time. yeah, of course your band can be on it. We'll probably
start with small runs of CD-Rs and tapes and work our way up to vinyl and
cds and all the fancy stuff. any assitance would be appreciated, and I
still need a name.
