 About Wild Williams 
          My name is Jay Williams.  I am a science teacher at Southeast Bulloch Middle School in Statesboro Georgia. I believe I was hard wired with a love for science or acquired this love shortly after birth. As a child, I was far more interested in what made my toys work than I was in the toys themselves.  This led to many dismantled and rarely restored playthings. The games that I played were exploring for dinosaur bones, inventing gadgets/playing with electricity, and mixing various household chemicals.  It is a wonder I survived. 
             The adventures were many.  There were always things to play with at the house.  My father, an electrician and in general an all-around handy person, never threw things away if there was a possibility that they could be used for spare parts or recycled. Of course they all were fair game for an inexperienced and questioning mind. 
          In school I would love to say that I always did my homework, studied for every test, and was the pet of every teacher (chuckles). It wasn't exactly that way.  I remember a very frustrated 7th grade science teacher.  I challenged this teacher every chance I got in the realm of science.  This resulted in a lesson on "applied force" (AKA paddling) that this teacher delivered quite capably with a scientific instrument, now antiquated, in a one-on-one session in the hall. 
            The years brought more experience and with them more wisdom. I began college at Southern Technical Institute in Atlanta. I worked various summer jobs too numerous to mention and left college due to some quite compelling distractions. During this time my mind was driven by philosophy. Theory met reality, as finances became more of a director in my life. I returned to college at Georgia Southern University.  There I studied Middle Grades Education with an emphasis in the Sciences.  I have taught Physical Science for six years and truly enjoy the subject matter and the age group that I teach.  I am in the process of acquiring a Master's Degree and intend on achieving a doctorate. More of my professional goals include acquiring a physics degree, obtaining at least one patent, and contributing to the body of scientific knowledge via research and publication. 
             As for the Wild Williams thing, the bigger, louder, more dramatic the demonstration or experiment the better I like it!  Student's minds are full of computer-generated images and movie special effects.  To compete with such for the interest of young minds requires taking it to another level. It's not mayhem, it's not fun without content;it is using the resources that can be acquired to engage students in a way that will promote interest, intrigue, and long term-learning. So WILD I will be!!!!!! :)
