Instructions
1. Make sure that your balance is level while it is
empty. If it is not, use the little white slide weights on the arms to
get it balanced. If you have a scale that is different you will need to
locate the dial that tweaks the balance it will be located on the
balances body.
2. Place the object to be measured into one side
of balance. On the opposite side use the standard masses to make your scale
balance. Do not mix the standard masses with your object to be measured.
Keep the masses on one side and objects on the other.
(Each person in your assigned group of 4 or 5 should
take a turn measuring one of these items. The person to go first is the
one closest to the front door. The turn should go next to the student's
right. All students should write down the findings with units. In the event
that this procedure cannot be followed the student will become a
part of the instructor's group and will experience this activity as a demonstration.)
3. Calculate the mass of the measured object by adding up the values of the standard masses needed to make the scale balance. Always write the units!!!!!
