I am interested in Indian history in general but am more interested in the history/background of the horse whisperer. I am, at this point, guessing that the ability of a person to comunicate/train a horse in this manner originated from indians. Do you ave any information on this?

One man looked so much like my younger brother I couldnt help but stare when I saw him. Years after they were introduced others could see the likeness. Another friend who is married to a Cherokee would introduce his wife and myself as sisters. Even I could see it. Except she is very short unlike my self. We are of no relation whatsoever. Is there information concerning things of this nature? Both of these people are much more Cherokee as far as I know. I've heard that in the middle 1850s, California paid out a few million dollars per year in bounties for the ears cut off Indians who had been killed. Is this true? How can I get unassailable documentation of this? Ideal documentation might be something like a date and a page number in something like the Sacramento Bee that could be found on microfilm in a few hundred research libraries in the US. It helps people in the US understand the Nazi holocaust -- and through that, the Vietnam War and the US involvement in similar crimes in Indonesia and elsewhere today. Thanks, Spencer Graves

After being here for almost 8 months, and learning much about American culture, I realized I knew so little about the native peoples of this land. Thankyou for poviding such a good site for me to begin learning. I will be visiting many times again. My interest was flamed by the debates at my college here (University of Illinois) and the current discussion surrounding the school's mascot, and Indian Chief. I hope to learn much about Indian history while I am here, and will continue to upon my return home.

Great page. You can count on me returning to it many times, & for me to refer a few people that I know will be interested.

Wow, hi! Am I really the first to sign this?? Hmm. Well, I guess that's good...and bad. Well, I know how ya can get lots more visitors here. Yep, you heard right! Submit it to some search engines! Thats what I did. Unless you did that already. Or, if you ive me permission, I'll do it for you! =) This is an excellent page, and I'm sure it will do very well. And, thank you for adding a link to my site! =) I'll be coming back here more. So, email me with a decision about the search-engine thing, or something I can't think of much else to say. So, BYE! And good luck with your site! --Mike
