ASIA 21 Fiesta 102304 (Part 2)
I was asked to participate in Asian Fashion Show, one of the main events of ASIA 21 Fiesta this day. As I entered the mail hall of the School of Asia 21 at 10:00am, the organizers were constructing a stage. One of the members was concentrating on her preparation for narrations.
This is a scene from traditional mainland-Japanese dance performance.
The show, which began at 1:00pm, had three parts: introducing various styles of Asian ethnicity, demonstrating neo-ethnic creations designed by the students, and some ethnic performances. This is a shot from the first part, which fashioned all of the ethnicities represented by nearly 400 of our 1500 students who came from Asian countries outside of Japan.
After my part was done, all of the members who participated in the first part of the fashion show lined up and went on stage to show their costumes.
As for me, there was an Okinawan martial art to demonstrate. I performed a style of bo-jutsu using a boat-paddle. It was my own recreation of what I have acquired over the past five years of living in my wife's village - in addition to my previous training in Chinese gung-fu.
All of the participants of this fashion show is here posing before the camera after successfully completing the fashion show. We were all very happy about, and proud of, our collaborative effort!!!
What really distinguished our stage performance from various other so-called Asian fashion demonstrations was the exposition of neo-Asiaethnic designs, designed by my students. What lined up were marvellously creative styles that amalgamated ethnic and contemporary factors!
