Born in Szechuan, China to Canadian missionary parents, Harold Johns received his B.A. at McMaster University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He would make great strides in the fight against cancer, eventually inventing the Cobalt 60 machine in the 1950's. The machine was a major development in advancing cancer therapy. He was also influential in the early development of CT scanners and the definition of mammographic imaging. He was a huge influence in his field and no doubt saved many lives world wide despite his 30 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. |
