This is a typical Lakota knifecase.
Quillwork embroidery on brain tanned buckskin. Sinew sewn and edged with Italian seed beads. The inner rawhide is buffalo. Click on it for a closer look
  Here is something a little different.
This is an example from the Red River Metis people. The Metis were expert in the art of  quillwork . Their designs are often intricate with a mix of geometric and floral patterns.
This style was favored by the northern bands of the Lakota people (Hunkpapa, Minniconjou). It's different from the other Lakota case but quite common.
