André "Toots" Tousignant |
Born in 1964, Andre "Toots" Tousignant would eventually become a major player in the Hells Angels organization. He joined the Rockers biker club in the early 1990s where, along with fellow Rocker Paul "Fon Fon" Fontaine, he controlled drug trafficking in Montreal gay neighborhood. And when feared Nomads chapter president Maurice "Mom" Boucher looked for a driver/bodyguard Tousignant, who stood at an intimidating five-foot-11 and 220 lbs, was the ideal choice. He was now responsible for the safety of the most powerful Hells Angel in Canada. On March 24,1995, police pulled over Tousignant and Boucher as the two drove to Sherbrooke for a motorcycle show. A loaded 9-mm firearm was found under Boucher's belt and he was arrested. Tousignant was not charged. |
Tousignant and Fontaine were assigned the grave task of murdering prison guards. "Toots" kept watch on Bordeaux prison and photographed the prison guards and noted their work schedules. On June 26, 1997, he and Stéphane "Godasse" Gagné, a Rockers associate, followed prison guard Diane Lavigne, 42, as she drove home from work. On a Japanese motorcycle, they pulled up along side her vehicle and pumped her with bullets. The bike was abandoned in a parking lot and the killers fled in a Ford Escort. Another prison guard, Pierre Rondeau, would be murdered by the group on September 8, 1997. The murders had went down without any problems and law enforcement was left without leads. The Hells were pleased with Tousignant's work and he was awarded the status of prospect with the club's elite Nomads Chapter. But Tousignant's world began to crumble on December 4, 1997, when a small-time drug dealer told police that Stéphane Gagné had murdered the two prison guards. Gagné was arrested two days later and, facing a lengthy prison term, confessed to the crimes and chose to co-operate. With the information provided by Gagné, police struck on December 18, 1997. Maurice Boucher was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Warrants were issued for André Tousignant and Paul Fontaine but they had went into hiding after hearing of Boucher's arrest. Police spent the next two months looking for the fugitives but were unsuccessful. "Toots" and "Fon Fon" were reportedly seen in Alberta, where the two were allegedly being hidden by members of the Hells Angels Edmonton Chapter. The suspense ended on February 27, 1998 when the scorched corpse of André Tousignant was discovered near Bromont, northeast of Montreal. He had been shot several times before his body had been set on fire. Fontaine has yet to be found and is believed to be dead. |
