Mario "Banane" Auger |
Mario Auger, known as “Banane”, was born in the late 1960s and earned recognition as a full-patch member of the Hells Angels Quebec City Chapter. Between 1987 and 1997, the six-foot-four biker was charged with a total of 73 crimes, including theft, breaking and entering, assault and counterfeiting. In September 1997, Hells Angels from across the province gathered at the Quebec City Chapter’s clubhouse to celebrate member Claude Morin’s one-year anniversary with the club. The bikers also took advantage of the occasion to present Auger with his biker vest, making him a prospect with the gang. Auger would go on to become godfather of the Damners Downtown, a Hells Angels puppet gang. |
In February 2002, Auger was among almost 30 people arrested when police cracked down on the massive drug operations of the Hells Angels Quebec City Chapter. Also arrested were fellow members Alain Harton, Daniel Hudon, Pierre Hamilton, Magella Houde and Sylvain Lord, as well as several members of the Damners Downtown. During the two-year police operation, investigators collected e nough evidence to prove that Auger, along with a fellow member of the gang, ran a significant drug network that distributed cocaine, hashish and ecstasy in Quebec City and on the city’s north shore. Mario Auger pleaded guilty to accusations that included trafficking ecstasy and gangsterism and was sentenced to 70 months in prison. Authorities described the biker as being responsible for establishing the gang’s impressive ecstasy network in the provincial capital. While in prison, Auger apparently underwent a dramatic turnaround, according to a Montreal Gazette article published on March 27, 2006. Before he started serving his sentence, the biker could only write at a second-grade level. He since completed high school and done extremely well in college-level courses he has taken. Auger said he was inspired to change his life because he wanted to help his 12-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter with their homework. |
