1. Rebecca1 Turner (Thomas2, John3, Thomas4), daughter of Thomas Turner and Catherine Smith, was born in Rowan Co., NC May 1, 1762. Rebecca died March 11, 1831 Madison Co., KY, at 68 years of age. Her body was interred in Howard family cemetery, Madison Co., KY.

She married Benjamin Howard in Rowan Co., NC, 1781. Benjamin was born in Frederick Co., MD September 6, 1755. Benjamin was the son of Matthew Howard and Catherine Howard. Benjamin died April 15, 1835 Madison Co., KY, at 79 years of age. His body was interred in Howard family cemetery, Madison Co., KY. At 27 years of age Benjamin became the father of Catherine (Kate) Howard in Rowan County, NC, August 10, 1783. At 32 years of age Benjamin became the father of Thomas Howard Madison Co., KY, April 20, 1788. At 34 years of age Benjamin became the father of Elizabeth Howard Madison Co., KY, March 29, 1790. At 36 years of age Benjamin became the father of Elenor (Nellie) Howard Madison Co., KY, January 30, 1792. At 38 years of age Benjamin became the father of Matthew Howard Madison Co., KY, February 16, 1794. Craig's Co., North Carolina Continental Line in the Revolutionary War. He moved to Madison County, Virginia (now Kentucky) in 1787. He was taken by his parents to Rowan County, North Carolina as a child. The Will of Benjamin Howard (1755-1835). BENJAMIN HOWARD WILL

WILL OF BENJAMIN HOWARD OF FREDERICK COUNTY MARYLAND AND MADISON COUNTY, KENTUCKY

In the name of God Amen. I, Benjamin Howard, of the County of Madison and State of Kentucky, being in perfect mind and memory do make this my last Will and Testament, recommending my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the Mother earth.

In the first place my just debts to be paid punctually.

Secondly I bequeath to my beloved wife Rebecca Howard the whole of my Estate real and personal during her natural life, and the profits arising therefrom, for the purpose of raising and schooling my youngest children.

Thirdly I give and bequeath to five of my children to wit, Matthew, Benjamin, Polly, Viney and Nancy Howard five negroes of the following names - To my son Matthew, a negro boy by the name of Gilbert, to my son Benjamin a negro boy by the name of Dave. To my daughter Polly a negro girl by the name of Maria. To my daughter Viney a negro girl by the name of Sabrina, To my daughter Nancy, a negro girl by the name of Darkey. It is expressly understood that the negro girl by the name of Sabrina which is devised to my Daughter Viney, who has intermarried Isaac Starnes, is for the special use and benefit of my said daughter, and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body, together with her future increase, and not to be disposed of in any way by said Isaac, or her time to be disposed to satisfy any debt or debts which he may create hereafter, or heretofore created and for the retention of her the said Sabrina, together with her increase (if any). My executors, hereinafter appointed, or either of them is hereby fully authorized to take possession of said Girl and her increase, and so hold and detain them for the use and benefit of my said Daughter and her heirs as aforesaid, as to prevent their being sold by said Isaac in satisfaction of his debts.

The balance of my estate both real and personal, it is my will and desire should be sold at the Death of my beloved wife, and the proceeds arising from said sale (after paying to my daughter Katherine Grubbs, Twenty Dollars which I bequeath to her) to be equally divided between four of my children, Thomas Howard, Betsey Deatherage, Nelly Black, and Becky Tolson, provided it does not exceed four hundred dollars to each of those my four children, and in case it should exceed four hundred dollars when equally divided, all above four hundred to each, I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin, to this my last will and testament. I do appoint my son Benjamin Howard and John Burgin Executors to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 23rd Septr. 1825.

Be it remembered that I omitted giving my Daughter Nancy one bed and furniture, and also one horse, saddle and bridle. The horse, bridle and saddle to be worth one hundred dollars, which bed and furniture, horse, bridle and saddle, being omitted in the foregoing will I do hereby devise to my said daughter Nancy, and it is further authorized and devised that my son Benjamin is to have the care of the Plantation and other things as heretofore devised until the decease of my beloved wife and that he shall also take care of my daughter Nancy.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 23rd Septr. 1825.

Having added another sheet to this my last Will and Testament for the purpose of the subjoined to my aforesaid last Will and testament, that the horse, bridle and saddle provided for and bequeathed to my daughter Nancy. I have furnished her with the same and that the aforesaid bequest is by this my last devise, void, as she has received it, and it is to be further understood by this my last devise, that the negro girl by the name of Darkey that I also devised to Nancy that I have given up to her, in full right and title, her and her future increase excepting her new child about two years old, which she is not to have. Now it is by this my last devise to be expressly understood that if any dispute should arise between my aforesaid legatees, as to the property so devised, that all differences in relation thereto is to be settled and determined by Curtis Field, Thompson Burnam, and Thos. C. Howard or any two of them may choose a third person in case of the death of either, and their judgment shall be binding and obligatory to all intents and purposes, as if done by myself at this time, in my proper person. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of January 1829.

Be it remembered that on this the nineteenth day of September 1831, having determined in my own mind, that in a previous part of this my last Will and Testament on the final sale of my Estate as set forth as aforesaid out of the proceeds of said sale I bequeath to four of my children (to wit) Thomas, Elizabeth Deatherage, Nelly Black, and Becky Tolson four hundred dollars each, but being satisfied that it is more than their proportion, I do now change so much of my will as relates to that part of my devise, and instead of four hundred dollars to each of these my aforesaid children, I bequeath to each of them as aforesaid three hundred dollars.

I do further give and bequeath to my Grandson Thomas Howard Starnes a negro girl about four or five years old, by the name of Cussa, the only daughter of Maria, being her second child, and to this my last devise, It is my special request my Executors will attend to this change or alteration which I have this day made to this my last Will and testament.

She married Amos Deatherage Madison Co., KY, March 19, 1810. Amos was born March 2, 1782. Amos was the son of Achilles Deatherage and Ann Lewis. Amos died September 24, 1840 in Howard Co., MO, at 58 years of age. At 28 years of age Amos became the father of Lucinda Deatherage 1810. At 29 years of age Amos became the father of Bird Deatherage in Madison Co., KY, December 26, 1811. At 31 years of age Amos became the father of Nancy Deatherage 1813. Amos became the father of Rebecca Deatherage ca 1815. At 41 years of age Amos became the father of Mary E. Deatherage 1823. At 44 years of age Amos became the father of Thomas Grubbs Deatherage in Missouri, November 11, 1826. At 47 years of age Amos became the father of William Howard Deatherage 1829. At 52 years of age Amos became the father of Dorothy Ellen Deatherage 1834.

At 23 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Nancy Deatherage 1813. Elizabeth became the mother of Rebecca Deatherage ca 1815. At 33 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Mary E. Deatherage 1823. At 36 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Thomas Grubbs Deatherage in Missouri, November 11, 1826. At 39 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of William Howard Deatherage 1829. At 44 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Dorothy Ellen Deatherage 1834.

child 5 iv. Elenor (Nellie) Howard was born Madison Co., KY January 30, 1792. She married Samuel Black in Madison Co., KY, October 13, 1812.

child 6 v. Matthew Howard was born Madison Co., KY February 16, 1794. Matthew died October 14, 1851 in Howard Co., MO, at 57 years of age. He married Elizabeth Tolson in Madison Co., KY, January 11, 1817. Elizabeth was born May 24, 1798. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Tolson and Sarah Wright. Elizabeth died March 1860 in Miniteau, Howard Co., MO, at 61 years of age. At 19 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Thomas Howard Madison Co., KY, November 16, 1817. At 22 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Sarah Ann Howard in Howard Co., MO, April 27, 1821. Elizabeth became the mother of ? Howard in Missouri, ca 1822. Matthew became the father of ? Howard in Missouri, ca 1822. Matthew became the father of Elizabeth Howard in Missouri, ca 1828. Matthew became the father of Benjamin Howard in Missouri, ca 1830.

child 7 vi. Benjamin Howard, Jr. was born Madison Co., KY May 31, 1796. Benjamin died March 8, 1880 Madison Co., KY, at 83 years of age. His body was interred Madison Co., KY. He married Sarah Riley December 2, 1824. Sarah was born December 12, 1805. Sarah was the daughter of Ninian Riley and Sally. Sarah died June 8, 1871 Madison Co., KY, at 65 years of age. Her body was interred Madison Co., KY. At 19 years of age Sarah became the mother of Zerelda Howard October 30, 1825.

At 29 years of age Benjamin became the father of Zerelda Howard October 30, 1825.

child 8 vii. Rebekah Howard was born Madison Co., KY May 24, 1798. Rebekah died September 6, 1862 at 64 years of age. She married John Tolson in Madison Co., KY, January 9, 1815. John was born in Stafford Co., VA February 3, 1791. John was the son of William Tolson and Sarah Wright.

She married John Burgin Madison Co., KY, March 19, 1821. John was born Madison Co., KY January 10, 1794. John was the son of Thomas Burgin and Lucy Deatherage. John died June 17, 1856 Madison Co., KY, at 62 years of age. His body was interred Madison Co., KY. John became the father of Clifton Burgin ca 1822. John became the father of Easom Burgin ca 1824. At 31 years of age John became the father of Calvin Burgin March 13, 1825. John became the father of Louisa Burgin ca 1828. At 35 years of age John became the father of Tacitus Burgin Madison Co., KY, February 7, 1829.

Mary became the mother of Clifton Burgin ca 1822. Mary became the mother of Easom Burgin ca 1824. At 24 years of age Mary became the mother of Calvin Burgin March 13, 1825. Mary became the mother of Louisa Burgin ca 1828. At 28 years of age Mary became the mother of Tacitus Burgin Madison Co., KY, February 7, 1829.

Isaac became the father of Thomas Starnes Madison Co., KY, December 22, 1827. She married Allen Hendricks October 16, 1832. Allen was born Madison Co., KY ca 1802. Allen was the son of James Hendricks and Nancy Ann. At 30 years of age Allen became the father of John William Hendricks Madison Co., KY, August 3, 1832. The rest residue and remainder of my Estate both real and personal tis my wish and desire for it to sold, and divided equally among all my children viz James Turner, Rachel Barnes, Edward Turner, Rebecah Howard, Sarah Martin, Ann (Smith Turner, Wm. Turner, Catharine Morgan, Thomas Turner) Martin, Elenor Johnson, John Turner, Hannah Turner, Nancy Turner and Benjamin Turner, to them and their heirs forever but should either of the four last named children die before they arrive to lawful age or have an issue their portion that is left to them that may decease to be sold and equally divided between all my children. Lastly I constitute and appoint my Son Edward Turner, and my brother Philip Turner Executors of this my last will and Testament. child 18 vii. Annah Turner was born August 28, 1768. Annah died September 18, 1835 in Madison Co., IL, at 67 years of age. Her body was interred in Olive cemetery, Madison Co., IL. She married Christopher Martin Madison Co., KY, June 28, 1790.

child 19 viii. Ellenor Turner was born February 1, 1770. She married twice. She married William Johnson Madison Co., KY, May 14, 1793. She married Jacob Armstrong in Clark Co., KY, October 10, 1812.

child 20 ix. John Turner was born in Rowan Co., NC November 23, 1772. John died after 1850. He married Lydia Dill Madison Co., KY, November 22, 1800.

child 21 x. Smith Turner was born January 11, 1776. Smith died 1848 in Audrain Co., MO, at 72 years of age. He married Nancy Ragsdale Madison Co., KY, May 6, 1804.

child 22 xi. William Turner was born in Rowan Co., NC January 10, 1778. William died September 7, 1876 in Audrain Co., MO, at 98 years of age. He married Elizabeth Crooke Madison Co., KY, June 28, 1803.

child 23 xii. Catherine (Caty) Turner was born in Rowan Co., NC October 11, 1780. Catherine died circa 1845 in Warren Co., MO. She married Mordecai Morgan Madison Co., KY, November 2, 1798.

child 27 xvi. Nancy Turner was born Madison Co., KY April 18, 1798. Nancy died March 16, 1871 in Linneus, Linn Co., MO, at 72 years of age. She married David Prewitt Madison Co., KY, January 9, 1814.

child 28 xvii. Benjamin W. Turner was born May 5, 1800. Benjamin died February 18, 1871 in Boone Co., MO, at 70 years of age. He married twice. He married Martha Ann Denham Madison Co., KY, August 9, 1823. He married Martha Schooler in Boone Co., MO, December 30, 1845.

At 60 years of age Thomas became the father of Hannah B. Turner Madison Co., KY, 1795. At 63 years of age Thomas became the father of Nancy Turner Madison Co., KY, April 18, 1798. Jane died Madison Co., KY.

child 33 iv. Sarah Turner was born ca 1740. Sarah died ca 1828 Madison Co., KY. She married Samuel Freeman ca 1760. Samuel was born ca 1740. Samuel died March 1815 Madison Co., KY, at 74 years of age.

child 35 vi. Ann Turner was born ca 1745. She married twice. She married Jacob Lykens. Jacob died before July 9, 1767. She married Thomas Donnahoe in Rowan Co., NC, July 9, 1767.

child 39 x. Phillip Turner was born in Rowan Co., NC October 8, 1762. Phillip died March 5, 1852 in Howard Co., MO, at 89 years of age. He married Abigail Hickman Madison Co., KY, March 17, 1791. Abigail was born in Rawleigh, Wake Co., NC June 9, 1768. Abigail was the daughter of Joseph Hickman and Mary. Abigail died November 3, 1844 in Howard Co., MO, at 76 years of age.
