Here are some wolf facts sent to me from a wolf web ring I joined. They originally came from NAWA:(North American Wolf Association). North American Wolf Association

I though they were very interesting facts about wolves and wanted to share them with you.

1. Wolves can regulate their body temperature independently, keeping the tissues on the pads of their feet at just above freezing in winter - this allows them to tromp through icy creeks for miles with no discomfort whatsoever.

2. Wolves have webbed feet and are excellent swimmers.

3. Wolves can climb trees! Granted, they have to be motivated - but they can do it!

4. Wolves can go over a 10 - foot fence and bite through 11 gauge steel fabric.

5. Wolves have 1500 lbs. psi between their jaws.

6. Wolves hunt by "coursing" rather than stalking as big cats do. Contrary to popular belief, wolves rarely attack from behind. Instead, they run around to the front of their prey and bite into their nose or throat and hang on with powerful canines until the animals goes down - sometimes this may take as long as five full minutes.

7. Wolves only get one in nine prey - this is why they haven't eaten themselves into extinction before now! In the wild they will only live for seven or eight years... an eight year old wolf in the wild, is a very old wolf.

8. Wolves can travel from 50 to 125 miles a day - they can trot at speeds of 10 miles an hour indefinitely and display bursts of speed up to 45 miles an hour when hunting.

9. Wolves and wolverines have the only fur on the planet that breath will not condense against-it is a natural moisture repellent. The under-fur on wolves is the perfect insulator - it allows them to sleep out in the open at 40 degrees below zero-comfortably!

10. One wolf can hear another wolf howl over 10 miles away across the open tundra.
